Best for what? Knowing your intended use(s) would help.

In general, a good .357 revolver like the GP-100 is a pretty versatile weapon. You can use a wide variety of ammo in it, from light-recoiling .38 Special target loads to barn-busting full-bore .357 Magnums. Remanufactured .38 ammo can be very inexpensive, so you get to shoot your new gun a lot more, and the more you practice, the better you'll become. CCI even makes a small shotshell for .38/.357 revolvers, for plinking or shooting small pests.

The P90 is a fine gun, but it does require full-power .45 ammo to operate, as any autoloading handgun does. .45 ammo is rather expensive when compared to .38 ammo, and even some .357 loads. Plus, with the autoloader, you'll probably want to get a few spare magazines, which adds to the cost. A revolver only needs a speedloader or two; $20, tops (less if you shop around). Spare P90 mags will cost more than $25 EACH; some places they're more than $30! Good mags, but still...

The 345 has had some reported functioning problems; I'd wait a little until Ruger gets this one "tweaked" a bit.

BTW, I own both a GP-100 and a P90; great guns.

I tend to favor revolvers so "best" to me is the GP100 .357. The 4" version is well balanced, built like a tank and wlll outlast me and my great grand kids.
One note of caution, I read on various forums that some people have had trouble with the KP345 and some swear it's great. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not a gambling man and would stay away from the KP345.

Thanks guys,

I am in a great spot , I don't need the gun but when the wifes says sure buy one I can't pass it over right lol. I don't own a 6 shooter yet so i might go that route but I can always use another .45 right . Thanks guys

and what I came up with was get the GP-100. It's a fabulous revolver, from all aspects, but mostly you will never wear it out like mentioned before.

I've had 2 P90's and they were everything you would want from a firearm. My only drawback was they are huge, and only hold eight rounds, and I personally like the slimmer design of 1911's more. Don't get me wrong, I really liked the P90 and will probally own another someday.

The 345 would only be considered for a carry piece, and thats a nitch filled by my G30.

So thats why I would reccomend the GP100.

Personally I prefer a revolver over an auto any day, and the GP100 is one of my all time favorites (partly because it was my first handgun). I've had mine for about 8 years and haven't had a single problem. Like ronto said its built like a tank. The gun is virtually indestructable. With a revolver you don't have to be quite as concerned with upkeep (you probably should be, but the gun will work just as good dirty as it will clean). I love being able to shoot 38s at the range.

The only issue I have with GP-100's is that Ruger likes to put those stiff as a board triggers on them. If you go with a GP-100 either get a trigger job done on it, or do like I did and get a set of Wolf Springs for $10 and install them yourself.

Let us know what you end up with.

Is an SP101 an option?

Otherwise, the GP100 would be my choice.
