I am leaning towards the Ciener kit and have seen them on Gunbroker for around $140 plus shipping. It is for my RRA M4gery. I want to use it at the range until I recover from a broken shoulder and for inexpensive plinking after that.
Anyone know of a better place to get one of these and/or does anyone have any comments about that kit?
If you have a C&R liscense or know someone who does, you can get it for a better price on brownells.
I have one for my AR and bought a 30 round mag for it at Knob Creek. The mags are insanely expensive, but work. It is far from target accuracy, but I can nail clay pigeons at 50 yards all day, so good enough for me. For target work I have a Ruger 10/22T Race Rifle.
For a cheap conversion IMO it is great. Now I hear John Ciener is an ass personally although he did not seem like one when I met him at Knob Creek.
My impression of my kit is that it works as advertised. I also know about half a dozen people who have them and like them as well.

epsylum: How many rounds have you fired? Have you or your friends had any problems?

Don't expect great accuracy or reliability with these .22 conversion kits.

It's mostly to get my 10 year old used to operating an AR without the recoil. He has fired it a few times on a bipod but quits after a few rounds due to the recoil. He'll probably shoot .22 through it till the brick runs empty.

Until my broken shoulder is more healed, I figured the .22LR conversion is the ticket!
FWIW, I had a Ciener and it stayed at the factory more that at the range. The factory was very nice and helpful and always worked on it for free, but I finally got rid of the thing and got a milsurp kit from Sarco. Since then I have used a Navy and a Colt kit and all 3 have been flawless (at least until gunk is oozing out of the chamber).
Oh, and to top it all off, I spoke with Jon Ceiner personally about the kit (<800 roiunds thru it) at a gunshow and he cursed me, turned his back on me and refused to talk about it further. (i swear i gave him no reason to act as he did). I wouldnt buy anything from someone like that- and it wasnt just me he treated this way. Ask around other gunboards and you'll hear similiar stories.

I only have about 1k or so through it. I have had only the ocassional FTE, but I use the cheapie Federal bulk pack stuff and both my Ruger MkII and 10/22T Race Rifle chokes on that stuff as well.
The only issue I have seen with the people I know is one of them will double or triple on him. But that one has many thousands of rounds through it.
Re: accuracy, it isn't as bad as you might think. I can nail clay pigeons at 50 yards all day with mine. The sights take a little tweeking if they are setup for .223, but it is consistant. It ain't a target rifle, but for its intended purpose, it works.

Wow, I feel lucky. Mine runs like a spotted monkey.
Accuracy was OK after I found the right ammo for that rifle.
I also have a 92fs kit and would have bough a AK kit if Ciener wasnt' a prick.
