View Full Version : possible to mount a picatinny rail to the top of a shotgun?
well?
i am looking to put a holographic or red dot sight on a HD shotgun. i suppose you could weld a rail piece to the top of the gun. anybody ever seen one before? i have seen a new gun with a rail but they are quit expensive. i am still in the development stages of building my HD shottie.
Thanks,

Weld a rail to the receiver? Yikes! No need for that. Try this link:

The Badger Ordnance Mil Std 1913 interface rail will fit either the Remington 870 or the 11-87 and mounts with screws. The receiver will have to be drilled and tapped, so unless you are handier with a drill press than I am, you will want to have a 'smith that has a jig do the drilling and tapping for you.
I'm going to have one fitted to my 11-87 ahead of the factory ghost-ring sights, which may require shortening the rail, but the placement of the 3 screws will allow for this.

LOOKING AROUND ON THE INTERNET THEIR ARE SEVERAL OPTIONS FOR MOUNTING A RAIL TO THE TOP OF A SHOTGUN.

Remington sells a scope mount for the 870. No extra holes needed. It wraps around the top and mounts to the sides of the gun using the factory trigger group holes. DO not weld a rail to your gun there are plenty of other options.

Take a look at Mesa Tactical's website.
For a Picatinny mount, look here, at Mesa Tactical:

As said above, you really don't want to weld a rail to your scattrgun.
Think modular.
IHTH.
