View Full Version : sights for HD shottie?
holographic sights: zero experience -
how well do they work in low light situations?
pros: shoot from any angle and large window.
cons: expensive, bulky and fragile
red dot sights: zero experience -
i figure since they come in 40mm-50mm glass it would be easier/faster to pick-up on the target especially since they have a glowing red dot in the middle.
pros:large window and bright red dot
cons:bulky, moderatly priced.
ghost rings:
my only concern is they are so small that target acquisition would be slower and more difficult.
pros: low/solid mount
cons:small
any more options:
any comments?
Thanks,

ANY TAKERS?
HOW DELICATE ARE THE HOLOGRAPHIC SIGHTS?
The Eotech 552 is awesome. AA regular or lithium batteries, mounts solid, no shifting after 2000+ Winchester Power Point 1700 fps slugs.
Solid metal cover protects the glass, unless you take a hammer to it you're fine.
Love the large field of view, nothing I've tried even comes close.
Default setting is fine for low light, if it's bright jack it up a few notches and you're gtg.
Try them in a store to see what you like, some people can't stop looking at the reticle rather then the target so they don't like Holo sights. The reticle is fuzzy if you stare at it. I naturally look at the target so I much preferred it over the Aimpoints. Better field of view and quickest target aquisition I've ever had.

My 11-87 Police shotty wears rifle sights.
The only thing that I may change are to add some sort of tritium night sight to either just the front or possibly front & rear.
Otherwise, I need no fancy electronic sights on my shotgun.

I've used and abused the Aimpoint on my M4 for a year in a military enviroment, more than you probably EVER will and it's still going strong.
However, ghost rings are fast and inexpensive. They're not small. If you have a proper cheekweld and concentrate on the front sight, you don't see the rear except the outline (the "ghost ring") of the aperature.
They can be nearly as fast as a red dot with practice, and they make tritium front stripe versions.

Well, I shoot better with rifle sights than ghost rings personally, and I like my home defense gun (And my hunting pump or auto shotgun as well, for thaat matter.) to ave capability for slugs as well as shot. My Mossy 590 has a standard bead, and a laser sight on it. If I could find A Rifle sighted barrel for it, I'd pick it up and put it on my gun in a heartbeat! THat way, I'd be able to use slugs in it too. Simple front Bead's ok for shot, but I can't put a slug where I want with it! I've tried it!
