View Full Version : The Pm9 Is Here!!!!
MAN that slide stop is a B-*-*-*-* to get out the first time! For the record boys and girls, just because you push the hell out of that pin doesn't mean you don't have to PULL that slidestop out.
I've got the slide assembly soaking in mineral spirits as we speak.
I tried it out real fast in my SmartCarry holster in elastic mesh workout shorts: invisible! and I'm 5/9 178 32"!
Gun came oily but I'm cleaning her anyway.
Pics to come soon enough! Range trip and photo shoot tomorrow!

Congratulations!! Looking forward to seeing what you think after you've given it a workout. Enjoy!!
I didn't do the mineral spirits to start, and I didn't lube my pm40 enough, I had a bunch of problems to start, but yesterday I soaked it in the mineral spirits and lubed it real well, I hope to shoot tommorow or Sunday and I am hoping this has fixed my problems. Good luck to you.

craig o,
I am also currently carrying my recently purchased PM9 in a Smartcarry, and it's exactly as you said....invisible! I'm going to start trying some pocket carry in a Nemesis here soon.
For some odd reason from day one, I had no problems at all getting the slide stop out on my PM9..... mine just came out with a little pressure from my thumb. I suspect with yours it's just really tight tolerances.... I bet it will loosen a bit after a few range trips.
Best of Luck at the Range!

As I indicated in my PM to you, that's a Kahr for you! Those little buggers are tight. My P9's slide stop is still a pain to get out even after 2-years of shooting.
This is a good thing actually. My second Sig Pro 2340 that I had, the slide stop could be pushed out *easily* without lining up the witness marks on the slide and frame. This really ticked me off on a $500 pistol, so I traded it.
What I would really recommend on any Kahr (especially during the break-in) is to lightly lube the entire barrel's surface...hood, sides, etc. I am completely sold on TW-25B synthetic lubricant. It has phenomenal lubricating qualities, doesn't run all over, and it won't attract grime like oil. I still use oil in some spots, but I love TW-25B grease on the barrel. Just a very light coating is all it takes.
I had a super sticky mag release on my XD9 that wouldn't obey any of my commands. I'm pretty strong for my size and I had to strain to get the mag release to work. I tried Militec, Rem Oil, FP-10 (which I really like) cleaning it with mineral spirits, Mobil 30, etc. Nothing worked...that is until I tried the TW-25B grease on the release. Perfect now for 10-months with a single application. It's awesome stuff.
I know Kahr says 200 rounds for a break-in. Who am I to say, but I think it's closer to 400 or 500 rounds. My P9 is so tight that it feels like it was custom made.
Finished the entire cleaning ordeal about 30 minutes ago.
1 hour soak in mineral spirits (entire slide assembly)
1 hour soak in CLP (entire slide assembly)
CLP (spray can) on all relevant points in the lower
Universal Grease (RIM? I'll check later) on barrel, slide and rails and ever so slightly on the slide stop and guide rod as per wingsprint/michigun's advice.
It's air-drying now =D
First problem: 7 round extended magazine WON'T take a 7th round. Dunno if it's bent somewhere; I'll post pictures of it too after the range session tomorrow.
G'night everyone.
Question about the mineral spirits / slide assembly soaking suggestions... is soaking the entire slide assembly in chemicals going to be detrimental to the long life of night sights?
Any other cleaning break in tips for a gun cleaning noob would be appreciated (sorry for hijaking the thread, but the only other gun I know how to maintain is my glock 19).
it's not hijacking :hugs:
Here's what I do know: Mineral spirits is a very mild solvent. I would check with the night sight's maker. My soak got off some small plastic bits/shavings as well as whatever grease they had on the gun/shipped it with... I basically look at it as CLP soak preparation.
Reassembly is trickier than I thought it would be, but only because of your friend and mine - the slide stop. But it's in. I got a laugh out of the manual's "WARNING! BE SURE SLIDE STOP GOES THROUGH HOLE IN BARREL LUG OR THE GUN WILL BREAK" ... how the hell could you get it in anywhere BUT the right place without drilling holes?
UPDATE: I was planning on a little dry firing/fondeling of my PM9 this afternoon when I noticed the slide stop was NOT engaging! The profanity was flying...
But I calmed down, realized that since I still had a gun with the exact same number of pieces (rather than say splintered slide stop pieces A, B and C) and knew I hadn't done anything too wild during reassembly.
Took her apart with only minor difficulty... had a little trouble getting the slide off the frame, but a little wiggling and trigger depression at the right position solved that problem like magic.
I noticed the recoil spring/flange wasn't flush, which was certainly part of the problem or perhaps the entire problem... maybe the magazine has to be in too? Gotta prepare for work, no time to experiment.
The moral of the story: After you reassemble for the first time, take it apart again! It's the best test.

Did my email with pics help? The 1/8 in. wedge? If I get some time today, I will take a 20-second video on the way I do it with the wedge. I can field strip my P9 in seconds...

Absolutely! It would've taken my much longer without it. A video would be nice
Didn't take my any time at all to disassemble today.

Good luck with your new Kahr!
I just got a CW9 and put close to 300 rounds through it Tuesday with no malfunctions of any kind using a variety of ball and HP ammo.
The only thing I did was a normal take down, clean and lube out of the box. Personally, I think the whole soaking in Min spirits is not needed, but it certainly won't hurt anything.

I know I said this before, however: Remember, the slide stop will never automatically engage when the magazine is not inserted. If you want the slide to lock back w/o a magazine in -- pull the slide all the way back (hold it), then lift up on the slide stop.
As a previous poster said, you must reinstall the slide stop *without* the magazine in.
Is everything ok with your PM9?
Good news and bad news.
Bad news is no range today: I have the early early early shift and the drive is a bear.
Good news is the gun is great. I was having difficulty engaging the slide stop manually (it's somewhat stiff anyway but I was concerned) and the recoil spring flange wasn't flush with the frame. I took her apart, reassembled and all is well!
Slide sure is smooth now that the cleaning has been done.
I'll ideally shoot tomorrow, but if not then I can wait until Tuesday. The important thing is I've got a clean and loaded Kahr in my SmartCarry and nobody has a clue

I agree with that. I fired close to 300 rounds before carrying my first P9. It never had any functional problems, but I wanted to make sure it had a good 'running in' before I carried it.
Just around the house. First gun and no CHL yet (getting that process started on the 7th).
