An M16A2 has a carry handle.
If possible, have it converted to remove the carry handle and add an M1913 rail on top so you can scope it easier.
If this is not an option, a scope mount for the carry handle, plus a strap-on cheek pad for the stock to raise your head the right height for the scope, will work, just not as well.
A Leupold VXIII 3-9X scope, or even better their MK 4 scopes will do the trick.
For shorter ranges the ACOG will do it as well, the Marines in Iraq are using their M16A4s (flat-topped M16a2's) with ACOGs for some very long shots.

As MM stated, your biggest problem is the carry handle (really bad for mounting scope). Your barrel is also chrome lined and will not shoot the same groups as a quality SS barrel. For the most accuracy, you will also want to FF the barrel and put a quality trigger in the weapon.
You are most likely building an entirely new upper and just leave the one you have alone.

The flat tops have a rail made for mounting optics which is what makes them much more preferable to the A2 uppers these days, with optics being the thing.
This is my long range AR.

Nice toy! what kind of handguard is that? does that handguard have an option for installing bipod?

The handguard is made by Hiperform. It's carbon fiber.

They can be drilled and tapped for a bipod, although you'd have to do that work on your own or have someone do it for you.

If you indeed have an M16A2, you would be better off leaving it as is so as not to decrease its value. As you no doubt discovered when acquiring it they are not cheap, and they are not in abundance. Since full auto fire is not really conducive to long range precision shooting, why not build a dedicated rifle like the one RMtactical has or and SPR. It will cost 1/10 of what your M16 did and be better suited for your purposes.
Unless of course you're this guy.

The OP is in the Phillipines, where full auto is a bit easier to get oddly enough.
