View Full Version : PM9 Recoil Spring Directionality?

When I first dissasembled my PM9, one end of the recoil spring was clearly open and the other closed. Now there is very little distinction between the two ends-certainly far too ambiguous for my tastes. Any thoughts on this type of situation or other way to determine which end of the spring goes on the guide rod and which goes to the front of the slide?
Not sure what you're asking. You're asking which end goes against the guide rod, or you're asking how to tell the open end from the closed end?
The closed end goes against the guide rod, the open end against the front of the slide. Check out page 17 in the owners manual.
If it's a case of your spring wearing out or having some other problem and you can't tell which end is which anymore, it might be time for a new spring.

I'm having difficulty differentiating between the ends-- the gun only has 200 rounds through it so I certainly hope it's not wearing out, but you never know I suppose.
Is the closed end opening, or is the open end closing? I'd replace it and see if it happens again.

The open end looks to be closing, or already closed even. I'll order some new springs and see how that works out.
My spring has a much higher round count than yours and it's still easy to tell end from end. If yours is getting compressed already, something's wrong with it.
Contact Kahr, I would hope they'd send you a free one.
