I think the Charles Daly's are low-cost versions of Remington models...I know that the pump is a copy of the 870...not sure about the auto. Saw one at Wal-Mart the other day. Looks nice, but I've never owned or even handled one.
SHOULD I CONSIDER SILENCE AS JUNK?

I have a Charles Daley semi auto 12 gauge with a 28" barrel that I have had for about 4 years and never had a problem with it. My son uses it just about every weekend to hunt rabbit and he has killed quite a few rabbits with it. I have had Mossbergs and Remingtons in the past and currently own an 870P MAX and can say from personal experience that the CD was a good buy. I think I paid $300 NIB for it. That’s cheap for a semi auto.
I had a "Field" model a few years ago with the 18.5" barrel that I used as a HD shotgun. I shot it regularly and it was a reliable and well made weapon. I especially liked the rifle front sight. I think I paid about $189 (before tax) for it. They also make high-dollar shotguns that are supposed to be very fine weapons, but I am not a shotty expert, just have them for HD.
If you are looking at one for HD they are good weapons. I had no complaints out of mine. I ran across a guy who offered me WAY more than I paid for it and, well, we parted ways. If I ran across another for a good price I would buy one.

I own Mossy 500's, Remmy 870's and 1100's, and a Benelli Nova.
IMO the Benelli is the nicest out of the box. You are stuck with the stock unless you get the Super Nova, which wasn't offered when I bought my Nova.
However, advice without context is worthless, what are you planning on using the shotgun for?

If you want new I would say a Nova or Super Nova, I am thinking a Super Nova will be keeping my Nova company soon.
If you want cheap, get an old 870. I have several.
For either one, IMO add a side saddle, tube extention, and limb saver.. perhaps a jumbo safety and a light and call it a day!
The Limb Saver is truely amazing. I shot 34 slugs this afternoon (4 on the saddle and 2 boxes) as quick as I could and didn't experiance any residual pain. I shot the same number this weekend and hurt for a couple days.

I have the 3 & 1/2 in Maxi Mag field version. It's a fairly good gun. It is however a little too lightweight for that Magnum round. Mine does however need repair and I misplaced the parts I have before I had the chance to fix it. For $365 it's a good gun.
