Im 19, and deadset on joining the military. Im just not entirely sure what branch. Ive been mentally hopping back and forth between trying to get in The Marines as a Tank or AAV crewman, or The Coast Guard as a BM or GM.

Im leaning torwards The Coast Guard, but I'd like to know more about daily life. What can one expect in a day when not at sea? How long are ships usually at sea for? Days? Weeks? Months?

When at sea, how does daily life happen? How much time is spent doing a job, what kind of job, how much time is spent free, sleeping, etc?

Any advice, help, stories, etc, would be awesome. Thanks

Boy, the best job you'll ever have is as a Boatswain's Mate at a busy Coast Guard Search and Rescue Station.

You don't want to be a Gunner's Mate, son. You want to be a
Boatswain's Mate.
Just make sure that you can swim real good before you go to Cape May. Tell everybody you meet that you want to be a SAR boat coxswain. Be sure to qualify as a Boat Engineer, too, if you want the gearheads respect.
