I just picked up my first Ruger the other day. It's a security six, 2 3/4 " barrel, stainless. I havnt shot it yet but plan to tomorrow. So far i am very proud of my purchase. Also, i was wonder if you guys can help me out with a few things. I have noticed that a 2 3/4" SS is hard to find and was wondering if you guys would consider this a rare gun that could go up in value eventually because of that. Another thing i wanted to find out is when it was made. The serial is 159-11***. Any help is greatly appriated.

If you didn't get an owners manual with it, Ruger will send you one free of charge. Just drop a line to:
Strum, Ruger & Co., Inc.
Product Service Dept.
411 Sunapee Street
Newport, NH 03773
Or call: (603) 865-2442
They should also be able to tell you accurately when it was made and how many.
The Six-Series are among the finest revolvers ever made. I have the 6" blued version I'll never part with. However, I had to replace the factory wood grips with Hogue Monogrips and it made a world of difference in controlability and recoil management.
Good Luck.

My new handgun was a 6" S6 in Stainless in 1983. Will not part with it. If you change the grips, put the originals in the safe. I've been thru two grips, one a back in the day Pakmahr, and now a new monogrip. Still a great shooting gun.
+1 for Ruger reliability, longevity, and the warranty (not needed to this day).
Enjoy the gun.

The security six is already thought of by many as a classic and the short barrel version is most popular. I purchased one NIB just like yours back in the last century but later foolishly traded it off. Its a great pistol!

ronto- I got the gun from my buddy's grandfather that has a large (500+) gun collection and he said that he keeps all the boxes and manuals in his attic so being that he is in his late sixtys and im am good friends with his grandson i just told him that next time he is snooping around up there to grab my box and stuff. I was also planning on calling Ruger up to ask them when it was made if noone here could tell me.

everyone- I was actually planning on replacing the original grips ASAP for one that the originals do not get andy niks or scratched on them and for two a rubber grip will probably be easier to shoot. I havent even started looking for any yet but i really like the monogrips and now knowing that they make them for this gun they are probably the grips i will purachase

Thanks for your replies.

Finally shot it yesterday. Man was that fun. But definitly needs rubber grips. If i shoot with any speed my hand slips around a little.
