yes i know not smart.i wanted to see how the shock/blast would be in a real like situation.I was mildly impressed with my g31.the recoil was hardly more than a g17.it was very load but not painful and not as load as say a 357 mag from a 3-4 inch barrel.im always suprized that the g31 always seems to suprize me in good handling ways:banana:

Huh, What did you say?

We have done live fire exercises before that left my ears ringing.

Better you than me. I'm not looking forward to having to shoot my 32 in self defense.

I've been around plenty of gunfire w/o hearing protection, but never for the purpose of wanting to know how loud it was going to be;)
If a self defense shooting will be anything like a hunting scenerio (a little adrenaline going) you will not even hear the shot or feel the recoil.

studies show that the fight or flight in your body takes over and seems that your body does go through the same hearing and feelings as normal. so I have read

I shot my g33 and g31 w/o haring protection to see whats it might be like. it wasn't pleasant but no where near unbearable. Besides if I ever HAVE to shoot w/o protection, my hearing won't be my concern.

Had to fire a G30 in a car, close range all windows up. I know it's a .45 but I am researching getting a G31 or G32 for CCW and saw this post.
Anyway to my surprise my ears did not ring and I couldn't believ it. All windows were up also. Maybe it was b/c the .45 Hydro-Shok at 230gr is what @850+ fps. So who knows...

I too shot my G32 without ear protection once.. I had the ears on my head but not my ears. Standard operating procedure for setting up at the range for my. I had my eyes on already...

I shot a double tap at the target and quickly realized that it was louder than normal. I was surprised at how loud it wasn't. I've shot a 9mm ONCE without ears and it caused ringing.

I guess all that energy is going out the barrel as velocity and flash?!?!?!

I have a noise induced hearing loss that began with competition shooting in high school (.22, indoor, 50'), and culminated with a particularly large blast from a Naval weapon that I was photographing. Both collective experiences happened before hearing protection was widely (and wisely) used in shooting sports or live artillery-type fire. There is no getting your hearing back.

It will be a gradual loss, perhaps initially noticed more by your colleagues, than by you. The day I was finally fitted with hearing aids, and on the way home, I couldn't believe the racket that the turn signals/flasher made in my car. When I opened the car door to get out at my house, I heard all the birds singing in the parkway across the street and sat there for a half hour listening to them. After 20 years of cumulative hearing loss, I had forgotten about various birds’ lovely songs.

Now, without my hearing aids (which make sounds louder - not more clear), I have difficulty on the telephone - particularly cell phones, I adjust the TV to uncomfortable levels for anyone else in the room, I often must ask people to repeat themselves, small asides are never heard, and no bird's songs of course.

Check this site for information:
http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/hearing/noise.htm

"NIHL can be caused by a one-time exposure to loud sound as well as by repeated exposure to sounds at various loudness levels over an extended period of time."

AND

"Impulse sound can result in immediate hearing loss that may be permanent."
