Also, how about the new Sig 1911s? extremist 01-02-2007, 09:24 Some opinions in here http://glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=631340&highlight=smith+wesson and if you want my opinion, here it is: http://www.lenaburgs.net/images/SmithWesson/SW1911_Grips_5s.jpg http://www.lenaburgs.net/james/Guns/Smith_Wesson.htm Regards, James 10mm4ever 01-02-2007, 09:29 My Smith has been the most reliable/accurate out of the box 1911 that I have ever owned. The fit/finish is excellent. My only mods have been a Videcki long solid trigger, Ed Brown extended manual safety and a polish job. You can't go wrong... http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f7/masterofg3/000_1476.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f7/masterofg3/000_1471.jpg  DoubleDog 01-02-2007, 10:08 I fondled one at the local Gander Mountain, and loved it! Fit and finish were excellent, and it felt great in my hand... Don't remember which model it was, but it seemed over priced to me...It was over a K, and for that kind money I would have purchased something else. DD~ Lifer 01-02-2007, 10:16 Mine has been unfailing since I brought it home. I would like to have a whole stable of them like Extremest does. Maybe someday....... You know, a man just can't have too many guns. And for sure, you can't have too many 1911's!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lifer:harley: DocH 01-02-2007, 17:56 I just bought a SW 1911 and havn't even had a chance to wring it out. I researched a long time before choosing it .I have Colt Combat Gov't that I've had for years, and less than a year ago I bought a RIA just to have a plain jane 1911.I actually bought it because of the tiny sights. I have only seen one negative comment by S&W owner that involved a poor fitted grip safety, actually an easy fix.I know that all guns can have problems but I'm confident that I'll be pleased with the S&W. I have not seen the complaints that I have heard on other quality 1911's such as Kimber and SA. Everyone who I know has one says that even if a minor problem occurs,S&W customer service is top notch,at this point anyway. I'll know more after next Tues.when I get about 500 rds thru it on it's maiden voyage. If it runs properly,it will be my primary piece. I owned a Springer about 20 years ago,GI model and it was fine also, not a single problem. Catbird 01-02-2007, 18:18 I love my SW1911. It ties with my Colt Gold Cup National Match for my absolute favorite 1911-style pistols in my collection. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/Catbird1/SW1911-P01.jpg SilverState 01-03-2007, 01:08 Like everyone else, I have nothing but good things to say about my 1911PD: http://sincitypitbulls.freeservers.com/SW1911PD.JPG Alaskapopo 01-03-2007, 04:11 I have never shot a Smith 1911. But the one I handled at the local cop shop had a very sticky safety, the trigger was so so with a catch point. I don't care for external extractors on 1911's. Personally based on what I saw in handling them I would not buy one at this time. But there are some happy Smith 1911 owners out there. Pat 10mm4ever 01-03-2007, 06:26 The 1st sentence summed it up. I dont think "handling one at the cop shop", counts as experience or helps the thread starter?? RM 01-03-2007, 06:56 Mine has been more reliable than my Kimber Warrior. I haven't had an issue with my Smith, but the Warrior has given me allot of failures to feed. It is new so it may need a few hundred more rounds of break in 40SX 01-03-2007, 09:38 I have also handled quite a few Smith & Wesson 1911s, and I actually bought two and a third is on its way. Great weapons, dependable and reliable straight out of the box, after appropriate cleaning of course. My purchase decisions were always between a Smith and a Kimber, everytime the Smith won out. My girlfriend always wants me to bring one of the Smith 1911s to the range. They are actually the most accurate weapons in our hands for shooting at the fifty yard targets. Dennis BP44 01-03-2007, 10:31 I recently bought a very lightly used S&W 1911 blued steel from a board member and WOW is all I can say. it is the most accurate 1"@25 YDS,reliable over 900 rounds fired 0 malf's weapon I have ever owned. My only gripe is a heavy trigger roughly 6 #'s but that is not a hard fix:thumbsup:  SilverState 01-03-2007, 10:38 I had some reservations about the external extractor before I got it, but after using it with all kinds of ammo and mags in various states of being cleaned/lubed, I no longer have any concerns regarding its reliability. dogsoldier 01-03-2007, 16:37 Originally posted by BP44 I recently bought a very lightly used S&W 1911 blued steel Is it truly blued, not parkerized, or some wonder finish like tennifer, melonite or something else? Any ideas on how it will hold up? BP44 01-03-2007, 18:04 Yes I believe it is a blue,Smiths webpage describes it a "polished flates and Black" there is a decent pic on their site. As to it holding up, I really dont know. I have owned it for just under a month  and like my previous post said i have yet to have a problem Strider47 01-05-2007, 16:33 I really like my stainless SW1911. It's the big logo version and I got it "used" for $525.00 (first owner never shot it). It had already been back to the factory for the recall and it's been flawless from day one. I've yet to have a failure of any type. deputy tom 01-05-2007, 18:49 I shot one a few months ago that belonged to another club member and was impressed with it.If I needed another 1911 I would think about buying one.YMMV.tom. Most are very happy with them. Some of the reported problems: 1. Loose grip safeties. 2. Loose triggers. 3. Plunger tubes breaking. 4. Uneven breechfaces on the left side. Most often causing brass in the face. 5. Some of the early ACT mags spliting near the feed lips. But Smith does pay to ship them back and does have very good customer service. SilverState 01-06-2007, 23:37 I guess I have been lucky; no such problems... FLIPPER 348 01-06-2007, 23:38 I dig mine!................. even more since I swapped out the cheesy trigger and poorly fit MIM sear happyguy 01-07-2007, 11:36 I own one and in my opinion it is basically a Kimber with an external extractor that works. Regards, Happyguy :) mgs 01-07-2007, 20:56 I just shot my friend's Smith 1911 on Saturday....Worked perfect and he bought it used. The factory grips were so nice he put Hogue's on it. I havn't shot my GC for quite a while....time to get her back out and play 1911 a bit again, Mike. cowboywannabe 01-07-2007, 22:23 if i had the money for a slicked up stainless steel full sized 1911 that didnt have a lock built into it, id get it! i love 1911s til then my RAI will have to do, passing 600 flawless rounds thus far. FLIPPER 348 01-08-2007, 07:50 lock? Fredman 01-08-2007, 10:10 Originally posted by FLIPPER 348 I dig mine!................. even more since I swapped out the cheesy trigger and poorly fit MIM sear Man, I'd hate that engraved "no mag disconnect" lawyer warning on the side... dogsoldier 03-21-2007, 09:50 Picked mine up last night and no lock, mine had the down the barrel lock installed (all handguns must come with internal locks in MD). My instructions for those locks are, come home from FFl store, remove lock, throw in trash. rsc 03-24-2007, 11:24 I've had my stainless 1911 for about two weeks now. Been through over 1000 flawless rounds so far. ALMOST as accuate as my buddies Talon. farmer-dave 03-26-2007, 21:55 I like my 1911 stainless now, but initially I had failure to feed problems and had to send it back to the factory twice to get the issues resolved. I haven't put more then 100 round through it since the repair issues but it has fed reliable 100% so far knock on wood. My only complaint now is that they put a really heavy spring in it and it's difficult to pull the slide back, definitely don't put lotion on your hands and try it. MDO8 03-27-2007, 11:47 I've had 2000 flawless rounds through mine using every junk mag I could find. Keeps on ticking.... DJTHEMAC 03-27-2007, 23:58 Mine is pure sexxx. :hearts: I did have a problem with the barrel bushing being to tight on the slide, but SW took care of the problem for free, quickly, and even through in an extra factory magazine. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d174/DJTHEMAC/IMG_0494.jpg vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
