View Full Version : New Kimber
Picked up my first Kimber yesterday, a Pro Carry II. Ran 200 rounds of UMC ball through it with not one single hitch. Blasphemous as it is, if this gun continues with it's reliability I may just have to put the G23 aside from time to time for carry.

I just sold that same gun (in stainless though) to fund a Glock 21..imagine that.
There are a lot of Kimber haters but I never had a problem with mine as far as reliability goes. Highly accurate and very tight. Although I always shot FMJ so I don't know about it as a carry piece.
What really bugged me about the Pro Carry was that you can't break it down without a tool, and because it's so tight, you really have to clean it thouroughly every time you shoot. Oh and replacing the recoil spring every 800 rounds can be a pain too.. A very nice gun if all the extra maintenance doesn't bother you.
Yeah, that field strip tool requirement is an issue, but a paperclip will do in a pinch (not like you need a hex wrench like a lot of FLGRs).
I ran the initial 200 in one sitting with just a very light cleaning of the factory oil (and relube with CLP) before beginning. I was specifically trying to see what this could do out of the box. So, 200 rounds straight with a brand new gun and no cleaning, no additional lubing, makes me feel pretty good.
Just remember that the factory recommended recoil spring replacement life for the Pro size Kimbers is 800 rounds. You can get away with 1000 rounds but don't go too much more than that.
Wolf springs is a good source for recoil springs.

NIce looking pistol. But you should either decided to carry it and stick with it or carry your Glock. Switching guns frequently is a very bad habit and can get you in trouble, especially with guns as different as a 1911 and a Glock. (manual safety vs point an pull weapon) It takes thousands of repititions to build muscle memory you will inadvertenly forget to take the safety off on the 1911 when you need it if you carry your Glock most of the time. The other way around is not so bad you will simply wipe off a safety that is not there.

There's always a "but" in every psuedo compliment you ever give anyone pat. Why can't you just say, "Nice looking pistol." and leave it at that.
BTW, nice looking pistol.

Yup; taken with my new Nikon D50. Tripod, desk lamp, white card for bouncing light. I think it was a 1.5 sec exposure at f30.
And alaska, you're spot on with the switching carry guns comment; like I said I plan on putting about 1000 rounds through it before I "approve" it for carry. The only downside is that the G23 will get to feeling pretty lonely stuck in the safe...
That is one sexy looking pistol. I have the same in stainless and they are SCHWEET !
