View Full Version : New refinished PM9
I had this two tone PM9 sent in for a Roguard finish. I had my dealer send it in for me. Turn around time was about 2.5 months. They called and said they had to redo it because the first time the pistol had bubbles on the surface that they couldn't remove. At least they didn't ship out a bad product back to me.
I am very happy with the finish. I never expected such a nice "wet" look on the pistol. I would have been happy with a flat blue look. They did the slide, trigger, slide stop, guide rod, slide cover plate (dunno what that part is called), and trigger bar. The barrel was left alone and is still the stock silver finish. Kind of cool looking, and less harsh of a two tone look.
Oh yeah, they also filed down the little sharp bump at the rear right side of the pistol that always scratched the crap out of my skin on those summer days. Cost was $175.

How long should it have taken? I would feel naked with out mine for that long.
It should have only taken a month or so. Maybe they were backed up too, I don't know. I am now trying to decide what gun I should have refinished next.

I hear they are a little slow.
I've had some guns hard chromed, and have had bad experiences w/ Tripp research - sending out stuff that never should have left their door. Be glad that they caught that mistake. That says a lot.
I may try the NP3 one day (I like two tone polymer guns with silver slides).
I had Robar give my MK9 Elite 03 a complete NP3 job (inside and outside) a few months ago. They had to redo it several times because of imperfections and that delayed delivery by about a month. They treated me right by taking an extra $25 off the costs.
The NP3 is, as they say, slicker than snot!! The Elite trigger, which was very smooth, is now even smoother. The main reason for the NP3 was that this pistol is pocket carried. My previous experiences with stainless guns being pocket carried is that they will get a little surface rust, even though they are "stainless". The NP3 should prevent that.

I have considered refinishing one of my MK9s with NP3. However, Kahr told me in an email that they would not honor their warranty if I had the gun refinished. Have they changed their position?

Before I decided to have my MK9 re-finished (Black-T) I called Kahr and they told me that even though they have used Walter Birdsong's Black-T finish in the past, any refinishing automatically voids the warranty.
Well, I suppose if my PM9 has any issues, I will just have to pay for it. So far I haven't had any problems.

Wow...never thought of a refinish voiding the warranty. Here's my MK9 with Roguard on the outside and NP3 on the barrel, slide stop, trigger, and internals.
The hex head grip screws are also finished in NP3. They are made of stainless and were bought from a fellow on this board. They began rusting almost immediately. Robar charged a nominal fee to refinish them in NP3.
The grip tape on the frontstrap is long gone. If I had it to do over again, I would have had Robar stipple the frontstrap prior to refinishing. Too late now.
Also had some mags done in NP3. The gun is now worry-free in the corrosion department. Robar did an outstanding job! I would use them again in a heartbeat.
