Other than finish, is there any real difference?
Is the stainless as durable as the parkerized steel?
I fell in love with a stainless Springer today, so I'm seriously considering ordering one in a few weeks.

Stainless can be polished to remove scratches, other than that, not really. any differences other than finish are quite marginal.
You're sure that you don't want the sights of the Mil-Spec?

Yeah, I'd change 'em out to night sights anyway. This way I only spend the money once.
I say go with the GI and go with the parker finsih. My GI points so naturally I hardly need the sights that are on it, much less aftermarket sights.
But it is just a range toy and not a carry gun.

One of the reasons I became so intrigued with 1911's recently is because I have a heavyweight 1911 airsoft gun. I can hit a Coke can on a table, from the hip, at 21 feet on my first shot. Using the sights on a sticky target, I shoot the previous BB off the sticky at 15' about half the time.
It's as natural as pointing my finger.
Why would you choose parkerized over stainless? Personal preference, or another reason?

While the parkerized version looks more authentic, the stainless steel will be easier to fix any blemishes.
Plus when you want to start tinkering you won't have to worry about refinishing the gun.
Go for the stainless,
Steve

Yeah, I'm almost definitely going stainless for my first. I may get a parked 1911 next.

Good choice:thumbsup:
It makes cleaning up those beginner "idiot marks" much easier too.

it's durable and last longer down here in the heat and hummidity. also re-sale value is higher because it's "perty"

I think that stainless looks nicer, and I think the price is a little higher, but for carry, I don't like a shiney gun; attracts unwanted attention.

BTW, I agree that the sights suck.
