Quick question.
I just took delivery of two 870 Magnum SGs that I bought on GunBroker.com. These guns were advertised/sold as "870 Police" guns but nowhere on the gun is the word "Police." They just have printed on the gun "870 Magnum." Are they police guns, or have I been taken???
Thanks.

They could've been used by the police, but unless it says Police Magnum, it ain't.

1. Gunbroker false/misleading advertising... 'police style' or 'like police model',... not 'police model'.
2. Old Vintage Remington Police model (the best version ever produced)... have all the Police construction, but not marked Police... if you suspect this, you can call Remington and check by serial number...
My favorite gun i own now... is also the least expensive (purchase peice) i own... A vintage 870 police. NIB I paid 325 paypal (as i recall) just last year, and i figure she is worth maybe 850? I would not sell her for a penny under $2K as i am so fond of her...

Gun Broker is sorta a mixed bag,... someimes you get lucky,.. some times you get burned...

I contacted Remington today and was told that both of my shotguns are "police" shotguns. One was made in 1989 and the other in 1990. Now I can get to work on one of them. I think I'll leave the other as it is. I kind of like the way it looks.
Thanks to all who responded.

Very glad it all worked out for you. I have one of the newer models and love it. I'm sure your thread will be of great help in the future, to other users who may have the same problem.
My 870 Wingmaster ‘Police’ (built in 1980):

If you want/need the factory information on your Remington scattergun, call them M-F, 9-5 at 1.800.243.9700 and ask for the information.
The above shotgun is a Wingmaster 'Police' even though it doesn't say 'Police'. It was built in 1980 and when I got it, this is what it looked like, just as it left the factory, including 20" cyl bore barrel.
This beauty had only been fired (maybe) twice and was a closet queen.
My price. . . . $210 out the door!!!!!
The ONLY downside to this scattergun. . . . it's chambered for 2-3/4" shells. (And that is really no 'downside' as far as I'm concerned.)
Hey byf43,looks just like my vintage 870 wingmaster manf in 1974
retired from mo state pen ,Summitgun broker $195.00, little charactor marks on the stock ,but perfect working order.

You lucked out, early 'vintage' are awesome, and if you got a good price, all the better. I bet they are smooth as butter with all that use on them
A nice 870P will only get better with proper care and use...
