I just can't get enough reading and looking at pics of 1911's, and I don't even own one yet.
So many pictures, so much information, so many subtleties, such gorgeous pistols!
I've all but made up my mind that my first is gonna be a stainless SA GI, but that leads me to thinking about what my second is gonna be.
I may have to sell a Glock or a rifle to help fund this new obsession. I think it will be easier on my heart to get rid of a Glock, rather than a rifle.
In fact, as much as I like the Glocks because they work perfectly, they're just like my AK's to me. They're just tools, not works of art.

It gets worse....
If you are that into it, I'd suggest an older Colt commercial or GI "mixmaster". There are worse habits and collectables to get into. The Glocks are very replaceable if you decided to go that way. But you know that.

Less than $500 and works perfectly.

If it weren't for the bold lettering on the Taurus, I'd probably jump on one.

When it is in your hand shooting, or in the holster, you don't even notice it. I promise. ;)
Also, I don't know if you have seen one in person, but the camera flash makes it much more pronounced than in real life. And you can easily take a crayon to it, like some people do with the Glocks. Just something to think about.

Which is one reason I don't have a SW1911 on my list of future guns.
I've considered a Rock Island Armory as a cheap pistol to start with, but they have the huge lettering too.
I hope I don't come across as insulting to those who own the guns with the huge lettering. It's like tattoos to me; Some of them look great! ... on someone else's body.

It will be easy to get rid of all your Glocks once you get used to the 1911 trigger (and everything else) Hell, you can keep one I guess for the tool aspect.

Are you referring to the lettering itself, or just the colored stuff, because the top of your list has lettering too. Just like the RI and the others.

It's even more pronounced on the stainless.

No, it's not "just like" them. The others are tall, long, and dominate the slide. The Springfield looks like a regular gun stamp.
The difference, to me, is like the difference between raised white letter tires, and blackwalls. The lettering is still there on the blackwalls, but it doesn't jump out and scream "RADIAL T/A" at you.
Just a matter of personal taste.
Again, I hope I'm not coming across as insulting. I like the way those guns look. They just aren't my style.
Another analogy: I think the new Ford Mustangs look great! But I can't see myself driving one.

I think I'm beginning to understand what's going on inside my head.
It's the fact that a 1911 is not only a fine creation, but that it also allows individual expression. Much like the motorcycles I've built and ridden, and the hot rods I've built and driven.
You can stay true to the original, or take it as far from that as you want. You can make compromises between functionality and form, or you don't have to.
It's like the '57 Chevy of firearms.

1911s are like steak and salmon for me, it's hard for me to order them in resturants bucause I can make them better at home.
I used to be a P7 man (20 years) and owned many (many) auto pistols but a few years back a gunsmith/machinist here in town taught me how to build 1911s. Funny, I can't seem to find any other style auto pistol in the safe anymore!
