Saw some chatter on a Ruger forum that they are planning to discontinue the PC-9 and PC-40. One poster claimed to have called them and got that confirmed. Kinda bummed out on that one, I have been wanting a pistol caliber carbine and that was one I was considering. Just something else that didn’t make it to the top of the list yet.
Anyway, it just seems to me that if they would offer a variant that took Glock magazines I would probably have bought one years ago. Anybody else think so?
I am in no way bashing Ruger autos, but the market of Glock shooters is huge. It would be a bold move on their part, to offer something like that tailored to a competitors offering, but I would have a high level of confidence that they would sell a buttload of them. Anyone else think so?
I dont think that would go over well. making a firearm to accept someone elses magazine would be like buying a new F-150 and ford quit selling them with ford transmisiions and instead started putting chevy transmisions in them.Would it make the product better or worse? probably wouldnt matter much either way.
You could always buy a HI-POINT carbine. Those suckers are actually quite fun to shoot. And dont look nearly as ugly as their handguns. Think they go for about 200 bucks NIB too.;)

Kel-Tec makes the Sub 2000 rifle and one of its iterations takes the Glock 17 magazines. I think it also comes in a form that takes S&W mags. Anyway, it is light duty pistol caliber carbine that folds in half for stowage and is quite fun to shoot. I bought one last year NIB at a gun show for $175. This gun rides in the trunk of my car. Another truly GOOD pistol caliber carbine is no longer in production but has achieved cult status and that is the Marlin Camp Carbine. It came in 9mm and took the S&W model 5900 series 9mm magazines and the 45ACP version uses 1911 magazines. I have the one in 45 ACP and it is a great firearm...mine has a 4MOA red dot scope on it and it will leave one ragged hole out to 50 yards or so.
Another viable alternative if you have a wheel gun is to get a lever gun in that same caliber. I have a Marlin 1894C in 357/38 caliber and it is a fine addition to my 357 revolvers. They make them in 44 mag, 45 Colt, 44-40, 41 mag, 32-20 and so on.

I heard they were getting discontinued too, when I picked up mine last month. I think the fact that it is a 6lbs+ pistol caliber carbine, combined with the price doomed it. It is priced too close to the Beretta Storm which weighs alot less and is more tactikool for the mall ninjas.

I have one in 40 caliber and like it a lot. I see them for sale used for $300 - $350 quite often. I think they're a bargain at that price.
CDNN has the PC40 in their current catalog.

Sales have been sluggish. Sluggish might be kind. If a d/c is pending, and an existing surplusing of what few PC's they sold to agencies, there are some good deals to be had.

They might have sold some more units, but most manufacturers shy away from bolstering their competitors in such ways.
Much like changing cartridge nomenclature on markings, to avoid advertising the other guy. .223 Rem, .40SW, 357SIG, etc.

Nope. I did expect a more developed cottage industry offering retrofits.
Like so much else, though, I suppose everyone asked for these things from the back of the crowd, without stepping forward with money in hand.

Manufacturers change the name, but the still chamber the pistol. How much of a stretch would magazines be?
But I think your suggestion is dead on, I am one of those guys watching from the wings, and when I posted this thread I figured people would chime in and post “say it isn’t so” and yours is like the fourth post… O well!

We ALL need to petition GLOCK to make a Carbine of similar design to the Ruger PC carines, and CHAMBER ONE FOR .45 ACP that uses G30/G21 Mags! I'd buy that rifle within 3 months of when it came out! Also should make one in 9MM, .357 SIG, and .40 S&W. But the .45 ACP Is the one I'd buy!

Yep discontinued. I'm sure you can find one if you want it. I have shot the 40 and it's built like a tank. If you asked me if I would buy one the answer is no.

bill ruger Sr. support of the Assault Weapons Ban included language originally meant to slow the growth of Glock in the LE market. Company philosophy remains to support their own products and no one else's.

even though I owned a PC9 a while back and regret selling it...never could find one at that price again...I would opt for a Kel-Tec Sub-2000 carbine this time around...good product for the money and magazines are not proprietary to their own design (they are setup to take Glock, Beretta, or S&W mags) and allow to be 'paired' with more brands of handguns on the market
