View Full Version : Heinie SlantPro install
Has anyone installed a set of the Heinie SlantPro sights?
The ad in Midway says they are easily installed.
Does the rear sight have a set screw?
I think the front uses a screw/bolt.
Thanks
James
They are pretty easy to install. I have done a number of sets and have never had a problem. Just oil up the rear dovetail, test fit from right to left (you may need to use a file lightly if snug). Clamp the slide in a vise with something to protect the slide (plastic cutting board, rubber vise clamps, etc....). I use a old hickory hammer handle against the sight and a few good whacks on the hickory with a hammer and it should be in place. The last 3 sets have had a set screw in the rear and a small amount of loctite and you are done.
I ordered a front site tool from Brownell's along time ago for the first set and I do recommend it. Some have said they have used a socket but I would have a tough time using one. That screw is very, very small in diameter and the head is super thin for clearance of the barrel. I think it would be very easy to twist off the screw with a 1/4" drive socket. The tool from Brownell's is a thumb and forefinger affair and very hard to over torque the screw. I use red loctite on the threads as well as the tang of the front site also.
I've done 8 sets like this and never had any problems shooting them loose!
Good Luck!
Thanks a bunch Augman. Sounds like a pretty straight forward thing. I'm not crazy about the stock sights on my G17.
Thanks again
James
I did lie to you earlier, it has actually been 9 sets. 7 Glocks and 2 1911s. I am not excited about the factory Glock factory sights either!

I have done a few hundred. They are a tight fit so its best to use a pusher when installing but it can be done with a punch if needed. Make sure to lube the dovetail and sight. Also loctite the set screw. The front will require a 3/16 thin wall nut driver. FYI we have the sights in stock with a front tool for less than midway has just the sights.
I tried out my G17 with my newly installed Hienie SlantPros today
I couldn't be happier, they are such an improvement over the stock sights.
Thanks for the info all

Which way do you push from the right for the rear? With the barrel end facing you or the rear of the slide facing you?

It will work on a small frame slide but not a large it will also leave a mark on he side of the sight.
BTW if you have to file heinies for a glock you are doing something wrong.

Took a fine file to mine to basically remove the black finish on the underside of the sight to smooth it up. Fit in snug and easy after that. Tried it with just lots of lube in the dovetail first but it kept binding. So a few strokes to give a very slick finish and some oil and went right in with a few good hits. After i degreased with some gun scrubber and loctited it in the dovetail and set the screw. Easy
