In a magazine Published by Shooting Illustrated: The American Rifleman Guide To M1911 Handguns Vol. II, there is a review on the Springfield Armory GI.45 M1911-A1. This review was first published in the American Rifleman, Dope Bag, April 2004, P.64.
Springfield wanted the replica to be as close as possible to the original, so rather than add a firing pin safety mechanism, a lightweight titanium firing pin was incorporated. When dropped, the titanium pin does not have as much inertia as a steel one, so the gun passes the drop test required on imported pistols (the gun is made by Brazil's IMBEL)."
I too would like to purchase a S.A.'s GI.45. But, is "Made in Brazil" an issue I should be concerned about?

I don't see why. Imbel is an established outfit in Brazil, and Springfield Armory Inc is an established outfit in the US. The guns are as well made as any at their price range and are well supported by the companies.
Why is a gun made in Brazil any more an "issue" (hate that weasel word) than one made, say, in Austria?
I will not support you in purchase of a gun made in Communist China, though. They are our enemies.
I agree w/ JW. Define "issue"
If you want a good shooting gun at a good price, buy it. If you want a "made in America" gun, don't buy it.

IMBEL has a very good worldwide reputation. I see no reason to believe their products would be second rate.
Our laws prevent us from importing some of their fine products (such as the FAL), which drives the prices of their American made counterparts through the ceiling.

When it comes to receiver lowers for FAL's, the most sought after are probably IMBEL. Excellent grade of steel, forging, machining, etc. I seriously doubt we could make a better product here.
My Springer GI has a IMBEL frame, I would not even worry about it. They make a very tough frame, I beat the hell out of it.
Biggest thing I like about it is they pinned the ejector instead of gluing it in.
IMBEL is considered the world standard in FAL receivers. BUT. There is actually one manufacturer that excels over IMBEL and that is DSA. DSA has a rep for being the finest, bar none. You will pay a premium though.
IMBEL is good stuff, period.

Just like the dreaded MIM parts, the Made is Brazil is a tempest in a teapot.
It's nothing to fret over.
Ok, "kooky".

Imbel also made 1911's for the Brazilian military for decades.
They know what they're doing.
Yeah, you could get a lemon but you can pay thousands of $ and still get a bad Wilson or Nighthawk occasionally.
