View Full Version : M-44...I might have paid too much but I like it!!!
So I was with a friend at one of his favorite gun stores..He paid off his Walther 22 while I was window shopping...They had a nice FR-8 that I almost bought for $289 when a worker told me to check out these Russian M-44's..They were mint, un-issued for $139 with laminate stocks..Two hours later I'm at the range with my M-44,,440 rounds, tool kit,oil bottle and leather ammo pouch and $198 poorer..WELL....I LIKE IT..This little booger rocks...After the first round my friend backed up 4-5 steps and said you can feel the shock wave from the ceiling of the outside shelter..He said I was throwing out about a 1.5-2 foot flame...A 25 yards I was holding at 3 o'clock and was hitting center 9 inch pie plate..Several were through the same hole,,next time out I will work back to 100 yards...Now I'm reading that people are picking up M-44's for $75-$100 at shows..Oh well,,I like mine...Thats how impulse buys go sometimes...Rich

OK so where could he buy a 44 for 39.00?
There are so many types to buy ie.. Condition,,stocks,.I seen M-44's for $75-90 but I don't know if they were laminate, un-issued??...Some of the pictures I've seen have plain looking wood and are advertised good condition.....I figure.....If the rifle shoots corrosive ammo...I want new if possible..As soon as I got home out came the windex,,then hoppes and tri-flow...These mil-surps are so affordable...Why not buy new????.............Unless you get a really cheap-------nice one...

I bought my Mosins from SOG when they were on sale...paid $59 for them.
Were you shooting surplus ammo, it was corrosive.....did you clean your gun?
Yea,,when I got home I cleaned it first with windex..Then Hoppes and Tri-flow..Thats what the gunshop recommended...I was surprised how easy the bolt disassembled for cleaning..Neat setup...

The bolt can be a little bit of a pain the first time.....but after you get it together once it makes since. I think I could do one with my eyes closed now.....
So do you have a picture of this laminated beauty....I dont actually have a laminated Mosin....just some cheapy hardwood stocked guns.
Here are a couple of my commie blasters

+1
Mosins have risen in price recently, at least here at the latest gun show (today). 91-30s were $99 with laminates for $109, M44 laminates were $119, which is what I payed for mine today. I don't think I could have done a whole lot better online after shipping and FFL fees. Taking it to the range tomorrow. :) My son has a 91-30 sniper and so I just bought our second 880rd case of Czech surplus today. That stuff shoots amazingly well in his gun and now we have enough to last forever! [demented evil laugh]
Went to the local gun show yesturday....I seen M-44's from $89-plain wood ones up to $199-nice laminate ones and one that was either nickel or hard chrome for $259 I believe...It was sweeet...Sooo, I paid a fair price for mine considering what I saw at the show....BTW.....There was a guy there selling brand new unfired Walther P-38s for $350 and P-1s for $300...................Came home with a unfired P-38 with a new holster,2 mags and the most awesome pistol cleaning kit I have ever seen,,,all for 350 out the door!!!Looks like peanut butter/jelly and balognie and chese for lunch next month.......It's tough being a gunwhore
