(1) What is your preferred method for cleaning wooden grips?

(2) Have you ever used a "compressed gas" cleaner like Dust-Off to clean dirt and grease out of the hard-to-reach areas of your m1911? If so, how did it work?

Thanks!:mallninja:

I have a set of houge grips on my beater 1911, I never really needed to clean them but I had some problems with the grips sliding a little so I used a little caulk to get them to stay put, so now I just rinse them under warm water with soap and a old tooth brush and then use canned compressed air and a towel to dry. It seems to work well.

Silicone spray(you can find it at Autozone),and a toothbrush. Works great and really puts a shine on the wood.

I have never used canned air, but use the various brake cleaners or firearms cleaner brands of liquid/aerosol spray can type cleaners. Good for hard to reach places or a quick spray down, but not a substitute for cleaning...and I am careful to relube well afterwards. I wouldn't think canned air has much power to clean anything out aside from dust, unless you know of some that is stronger than what I use on my keyboard. Plus, I would worry about moisture in it.
