I started this thread over, as it was getting to be about 4 pages long.

I think we are ON for this Thursday. A suggestion was floated about recommending Panera Bread as a destination. I know there is one @ Rockville Rd. & Raceway Rd. in Avon (no cosmetics required), if that is doable.
Here is a link to the map; http://www.panerabread.com/cafes/map.php

If y'all would rather go somewhere else (like the venerable Grindstone Charley's) that would be fine w/ me, as well.

Hope to see some old (Rhino465) & new (IPD Brad) faces!

I'm good as of now (08JAN07).

My credit card info got "stolen" and I was informed on Saturday, but I have my new card already. And my spiffy new Utah Concealed Firearm Permit! Woo-hoo!

IPDBrad
01-08-2007, 22:21
I will not be there, court. However, I will be strolling around the gun show, prior to shift. What about the thursday after next, I think that is the 18th?

minuteman32
01-09-2007, 09:41
IPDBrad,

I will be there, too, working with the fellow who makes custom ear plugs. We are supposed to be close to Bryan Ciyou's table (the attorney who wrote "Indiana Handgun Law"). Stop by & say, "Howdy" & put a face w/ the name (or 'handle', as it were).

MikeL74
01-09-2007, 10:00
Family duty only allows me one meet a month. If the 18th will get more people should we skip this week and plan on a crowd for next week?

As far as venue I vote for sticking with Grindstone Charley's. Based on the time or two I've been to the Panera at Rockville & Raceway they're not set up for tables bigger than 4 people. And they're an order-at-the-counter place so drink refills will be self-serve from the fountain at the other end of the place.

IPDBrad
01-09-2007, 10:10
Is this for lunch or dinner? I should be able to do lunch (court dependent), but dinner is out, got a pickup to do at the airport.

Minuteman, see you there. I always like to say hi to Steve, but he has been busy the past couple shows, good sign when running a booth.

MikeL74
01-09-2007, 10:18
It has always been dinner Thursday, starting between 5:00 and 6:00 and running until GC's waitress cuts off our drink refills.

Lately it's only been MM32 and Rhino and sometimes me. None of us are locked in to that day/time/place so if anybody else wants to pick a day/time/place that better lets them attend then just suggest it. Personally I'd prefer after work to a lunch meeting because it's open-ended.

rhino465
01-09-2007, 10:56
We can do it this week and next week both for those those who can't make it this time.

If it's likely to be just the man date and a couple of others, we might as well get closer to Speedway for Minuteman32 ... G-stone Charley's would be fine with me.

We could do Panera another time.

rhino465
01-10-2007, 10:43
Okay. I suck. I can't make it this week after all.

Sorry!

minuteman32

Lets ...um .... shoot for next week, then.

At this point I think I'm in for the 18th as well. Grindstone Charley's has been good to us.

Gravy! GRAVY! GRAVY!

biggl35
01-16-2007, 10:57
I know I have said it before, and then later, couldnt make it.

But I will try to make it this time, honest.

You folks make sure you mention in this thread, where/when we are supposed to meet. So far, all the places that have been mentioned, are very close to me, so that won't be an issue.

minuteman32
01-16-2007, 12:37
I believe that we will be meeting @ Grindstone Charley's on Crawfordsville Rd. in Speedway. The (bat)time is, arrive between 5-6 PM & stay as short or long as you like. I believe we'll be discussing the current bills in the Statehouse & possibly some related federal bills, too.

Hope to see y'all there.

rhino465
01-16-2007, 19:12
Roger that, MM32! G-Stone Charley's in Speedway, 5-ish to 6-ish. We usually order around 6:00. Arrivals and departures are entirely informal!

In addition to the current legislation, we may also need to discuss the implementation of a protective detail for MM32 and me.

Gonna try to show up.
I am thinking to stir up some networking ideas to counter the short notice we will have on committee agenda @ state house.

biggl35
01-18-2007, 10:24
I will be there.

I dont know any of you fine folks, so I need a idea on how to identify the group. I doubt that me yelling out loud, "Who are the Gunnuts here", as I walk in the door will be appropriate.

I will be wearing a grey jacket that says FastLane racing on it. So if you see me, throw something at me to get my attention.

minuteman32
01-18-2007, 12:39
We could refer to ourselves as the "Civil Rights Group", no? I will tell the host(es) thats what we are, so you could ask for that, if you like.

MikeL74
01-18-2007, 14:28
The first time I came I said I was looking for a group and the guy pointed and said "is that them?" and I spotted Rhino. When I got close enough to see around him I spotted the rest of the group.

If you have been following the news today you will hear about the real local supporters who did show for observation and witness purposes. They where asking the same question of theme selves I am sure when they finally injected their $0.02 from the house.

I don't usually discuss this, but scientists speculate that I may actually be a rather large virus particle (aka a "viron"). This could explain much, but it's unlikely that I'm a pathogen for humans.

That makes me a Viral-American.

Dude ... we'll be at the Grindstone Charley's in Speedway. It's right in front of the Kroger store in the strip mall on Crawfordsville Rd, just east of the intersection with High School Rd (which is where you exit from I465).

It would be great if you can make it tonight. Should I bring that Bushmaster upper for you? :animlol:

minuteman32
02-07-2007, 17:04
I'm open to both ideas.

By the way Rhino, txgho1911 & I attended the IN Homeland Security meeting today @ the Gov't Center. The reason was that they were to discuss the security measures going in @ the Statehouse. While we didn't get to speak then, we did meet w/ the Exec. Director of the IN Dept. of Homeland Security & he is willing to meet w/ some of us to discuss our concerns & ideas regarding not allowing access to the Statehouse by armed citizens, regardless of LTC status. We are to formulate our ideas/plans & schedule a meeting w/ him. We will be discussing this further @ the meeting tomorrow. (Again, 5-6 PM @ Grindstone Charley's, Speedway.) I hope some more folks will be able to attend so Rhino & I won't be having another "man date"!

biggl35
02-07-2007, 17:18
rhino & minuteman, guys i have been slammed at work since Sunday night. Sorry I couldnt make it today.

I will try to be at the rally point tomorrow night, but I cant make any promises that I wont be called out on a run.

02-07-2007, 17:36
Nothing wrong w/ a good work ethic. You've @ least made it to a few, so say 3 "hail Teddy Roosevelt's" & send a $20 to the GOA for your penance.

rhino465
02-07-2007, 19:42
It was actually okay that we didn't have too many more people today. We had "enough" to be taken seriously, but given how the informal conversations went afterward, a larger group might have resulted in less success for a variety of reasons.

We'll need the people NOW to start doing some research so we can put together a good set of comments, including a list of alternatives to what they're planning to do to us.

If we have to do an actual protest in the future, then we'll need warm bodies.

I'm too tired to discuss more of this right now. There was a semi wreck on I74 and my normal 35 minute trip from West 38th Stree to home took over three hours of sitting still with intermittent crawling, all in the last 10 miles of the trip.

rhino465
02-11-2007, 19:53
We actually made some progress last Thursday night and accomplished more than I think we have in the rest of the time we've been meeting combined. AND WE STILL HAD FUN WHILE WE WERE DOING IT!

I'll make it again this coming Thursady 15FEB07 unless the roads are too bad. We're very much pressed for time with respect to our response to IDHS & IDA regarding the statehouse problems, so come with ideas!

rhino465
02-14-2007, 15:20
I'm not going to know if I can make it or not until tomorrow. We'll have to wait and see how the roads are.

I'd say just bag it and go for next week, but we're working on a short (albeit uncertain) deadline with respect to the Statehouse carry issue.

minuteman32
02-14-2007, 17:15
I will probably be there. Depending on how long it takes me to get home from work & get my wife taken to work.

I got my truck out of the driveway.

I dug as much as I could, then I rocked it until I was at an angle between the two packed drifts that had me stuck. Then I floored it and once the front end got past the left side of the foward drift, I was good to go.

I'll never get back into the driveway, but at least I am mobile now!

I'll be there tonight. But I'm not taking a shower first.

How it mysteriously transported itself from my pocket while I was at Grindstone Charley's to the floor of my room is unknown to me. I shall contact Al Gore and ask him, since he obviously knows the answers to such things. I suspect it will involve CO2 emissions.

Yes! Not bad for a 450# fat guy carrying 30# of clothes/gear on his body with only one good leg and a bad attitude, eh? HAHA!

Hills are not my friends. Going down is even worse since I don't have much control.

Sorry you can't make it! We'll see you some time after Easter.

I had the A/C on because it was hot until Wednesday (which obviously wasn't running), but with this wind, the house finally dropped below 55F inside and it was getting a little uncomfortable in shorts with no shoes.

I was just contacted by the president of a local organization who informed me that he was contacted by a local attorney, who had worked on pro 2A matters in D.C., who has offered his services to organize & fight the Marion County shooting ban proposal! The specifics are in rout to me @ this time, but he would like to meet w/ 'us' on Thursday evening @ 6 PM @ his office (he offered the use of his boardroom) on Delaware St. (address forthcoming).
He said that if we can organize effectively, we can beat this. And, he is volunteering his services.
As soon as I get more specifics, I'll post them here. I hope that we can get a good turn out & some good ideas.
Tell even your "Elmer Fudd" friends, because they won't be able to shoot trap/skeet/etc., or hunt in Marion Co. if this goes through.

Okay, just got the email, which I'm just going to copy/paste here;

This is the run down on what I spoke to you about this morning. I heard from a local Pro-2nd Amendment attorney this morning. His name is Ros Stovall and he has worked on pro-2A issues in Washington. Ros has offered to help us defeat Proposition 174. We are planning a meeting at his downtown Indianapolis office this Thursday, April 12 at 6p.m. His office is located downtown at 225 North Delaware. He has asked if we could get some people together to help work on this issue. Please contact anyone that you feel could help us and give them the details on the meeting. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Note above where I said the next meeting I can make will be the 19th, yet I forgot and said I'd be there this week. In fact, I should have read my own message because I can't be there this week.

I'll see youse guys on 19-Apr-07. I think!

Good luck!

Okay . . . it's now 19-Apr-2007 . . .

I'll be there this evening . . . who else?

We probably need to discuss how the Virginia Tech tragedy will affect our situation and agenda items. I also had a good idea of an ally we might enlist.

Man! It was awesome!

We met in the late afternoon at KSFreeman's parent's house. KSF's mom served us afternoon tea, complete with crumpets and little sandwiches, while she lectured us on the divinity of the royal family. Then KSF's dad let us help him lower the Union Jack at sundown. I got a little misty-eyed.

They have surprisingly good teeth for British people.

Also, being the next door neighbor to KSFreeman's parents, they dont seem to have a British accent either. The fine folks must of come to the U.S.A. very young, and have completely lost their British tongue.

And I, like rhino, got emotional at the lowering of the Union Jack.

The Tactical Rain in Tactical Spain Falls Mainly on the Tactical Plain.

For the record, I averted my eyes when KSF's Royal Parents went prone, so I have no idea whether or not either or both wear underpants with their kilts. They do have a snappy family tartan, however.

And of course, those are first kilts I've seen with MOLLE loops for various combat accessories.

I think the kilts were level IIIA without the trauma plates installed too.

So who is available this week? I should be there.

I'll even show the bruise on my shoulder from the 3-gun match yesterday. I had the great idea of replacing the recoil pad on my shotgun stock with a flat, hard plastic replacement designed to shorten the stock by about an inch. I didn't feel it while I was shooting (although it was slipping around on my shoulder like crazy), but afterward it was a little sore.

Of course, nothing else went right the whole day, so it was par for the course.

I've posted a copy of it at our GOI Yahoo! Groups web site. If you haven't joined our informal organization (GOI) and you want to do so, send me e-mail and I'll send you an invitation to join. Well, unless I don't like you or your motives. ;)

Here are some things I will discuss tonight:

1. The Natural Resources Commission Meeting I attended last night re: the DNR handgun rules

2. Some contacts I made at that meeting

3. Some news about one of our potential allies

4. The crappy day I had yesterday, and how the meeting and the trip home (including some of the sights at Cheeseburger in Paradise in Bloomington) really turned things around

5. Reminder that we need to keep pressing our agenda of eliminating "gun free zones" in Indiana, particularly schools and the gov't center campus.

Our primary RKBA topics related to the statehouse restrictions, speculation on why they really happened, and what we're going to do about it.
