View Full Version : What Have You Done With Your 17 Lately?
Took my 17 out last week for the first time in a while.I was "downsized" back in September & have not been shooting for about 3 months.
Man, it was great to put some rounds down range! :)
Yep,
Took my son (9yo) out this past Sunday. I was shooting my 17 and he was shooting my 34. The little guy almost outshot me! In the end, there was not a whole lot of difference between our two targets. But we had a good time and that's what's most important.

Carried daily and shot today at the shooting range.Perfect function with zero malfunctions.Mine wears Meprolight NS's.
I detail-stripped my slide today.
First time doing this and it was a piece of cake! Nice to see how everything works and fits together. Performed safety check afterwards and everything worked fine. Really not much to it!

I got 2 cases from cheaperthandirt.com. They should have more in stock shortly. Also ammoman should have some in stock as well as northwestloading.com. I've read that they only release so much to the public every so often. Just keep looking. It's great ammo. Extremely accurate and sure functioning. I have it for a SHTF scenario.

The G17 is one of my favorite shooting pistols; also my CCW for a birthday party at a restaurant, earlier in the day a M29 S&W Mountain. The G17 has great balance and pointability that translates into a great run and shoot platform with many multiple targets to engage.
Enjoying the upper 60F weather on Monday did a lot of handload chronographing with the G17 and G20. Getting close to 1200fps with 147gr JHP standard pressure with low ES numbers. Will post on the reloading forum when this build up is finished. :)
Also did some barrier testing with 124gr Gold Dots and was disappointed with the results; expect the higher sectional density 147gr will do better.

What Have You Done With Your 17 Lately?
Bought it! In fact, I did that today. I have owned Glocks in the past (several times) and have always liked them, but they just didn't seem "classic" enough for me. But after talking it over with some military and police/law enforcement firearms training and tactics instructors, (they have a wealth of experience that I trust and respect) I decided to go back to Glock for my main "tools". So I got a 17 w/ night sights today, and should be getting my 19 w/ night sights in a week or so. I plan on using the 19 as a concealed carry piece, with the 17 doing all of the other work.
I still have a few other pistols, but I traded one of my 1911s for the 17 and think it will serve me well...again.
Regards.
I went to the range yesterday and shot 400 rds of WWB thru it!

I took my new G17 to the range and burned 175 rounds of assorted hollowpoint ammo thru it. As usual, no malfunctions, just a big hole in the center of the target.

I carry mine daily on duty, packed with Gold Dots. Quite nice.
I bought one:laughabove:
After buying then trading/selling a G19, 2 G34s, a G21, I settled upon a "beater" G17 (FTD date code) for $350 out the door from my local shop. It'll be my IDPA, range, woods, glovebox, carry gun

My 2-day old brand new G17 just got Heinie Slant Pro's installed last night.
Life is good.
I gave mine a full detail strip and clean, desperately needed it. I'll put it through its paces at a 600rd class this sunday, then install a set of Warren Tactical sights probably:thumbsup:

Any of those G17 3rd gens for $350 is a bargain!
This torture test was posted in General Glocking and I thought the Founders Club members would enjoy it. The 17 rocks!

Thanks for referencing that article. It would be nice to have the time, funds, and ammo to do that kind of test.
The 17 is a nice weapon. I'm glad I got another one and find myself carrying it more than the others.
...shot mine at our local IDPA match for the first time-and posted my highest accuracy score ever...no hiccups, reloading problems, etc. (probably not a big suprise to anyone here!)
Followed up by registering with GSSF to shoot it in 2 of the 3 GSSF matches I'll be shooting at this year (in the last match, I'll be loaning out my G17 to a friend, and I'll be exercising my G21).
Best, Jon
