Why, when I install a GI grip safety into my S&W 1911Sc does it not contact the trigger bow and have no effect on the opeation of the pistol?? It appears not to have a long enough reach to interfear at all with the trigger. I have tried two or three. Is it a series 70-vs-80 geometry thing?? It works flawlessly with the factory grip beavertail style (from whomever)
I would like to swap the skeleton hammer and beavertail for a wide-spurr GI hammer and GI grip safety.
thanks!!
not the fact your having a fitting problem but because your changing that swoopy BT for the GI real deal.I thought I was the only one that is tired of seeing every 1911 except a SA GI or colt 1991,go for those swoopy BT's.If you got big fleshy paws ,fine, otherwise whats the point.
I want to replace my BT for a GI on my Kimber UC.
The other "issue" you may have is S&W has the FP block activated by the grip safety, so it really has to fit and work properly.
To be honest, if that's the "look" you want, sell it and buy a "Mil-spec" style from Colt or Springfield.
It's possible that the S&W is not a true 1911, just looks a lot like it. They might have changed some of the dimensions so that aftermarket parts from other manufacturers don't fit. Have the grip safeties you've tried been fitted to other firearms? They may have been ground down too much.

no, they were new but thanks for the tip
I'll check and see if there are any grip safety -to- series 80 lever issues also.
I can always mill down the factory grip safety to the GI profile which would be the fun way to do it! It would give me a great excuse to install that wide-spurr GI hammer I keep getting tempted with on ebay.
