Hey guys , just got a SKS last week and i abslutely love it! Very reliable ! Is there any other military surplus semi-auto rifle out there besides the SKS and the AK that is very reliable ? I have had a AK in the form of a MAK-90 and now i have a Norinco SKS . I have seen lots of bolt-actions but i'd like to look at the semi-autos. It looks like my taste is changing as i get older as i never looked at older guns but now that i am getting into my 30's , the older ones look realy awesome and also a good buy at surplus prices.

M1 Garand comes to mind.....but its not THAT cheap.
If you want SKS cheap, your out of luck on rifles.
Perhaps a semi-auto handgun like the CZ52 - those are under $150.

There are some nice WWII German Mausers around right now.

I love Mausers. Great pieces of work, one of the best bolt actions ever made... and pretty much the father of almost every bolt action since.
These are solid battle proven weapons.
That said, I love the SKS too, it's a great rifle for the money. I have one of those as well.
Now, there's not really any other semis you can get in the milsurp category. If you just want an inexpensive semi, a Saiga is a good choice. If you just want a milsurp rifle, try out a Mauser.
Get one of the "like new" Yugo SKSs. They are cheap and plentiful for now. They are the same, but different from your Chinese. You should find one of the many Mausers and load up on the 8mm surplus. You can get a real decent Yugo24/47 and a case of ammo for around $200 bucks. Hard to beat...

i'd like to get a Yougo SKS for the cheap porices you guys talk about but here in Tn i rarely see that happening . There is a gun show (Bob Pope's ) Saturday and i will be going there . I'll look. For some reason , these people here dont want to deal with you , they say take it or leave it .

I have a C&R License....its easy to get, costs $35 and allows me to order directly from distributors and have the guns delivered to my door. Only certain guns apply, but the SKS is one of them.
So I got to Classic Arms, SOG, Century Arms and order my guns directly from them.
I have paid $90 for shooter grades up to $125 for excellent grades. Add $12 shipping and your at my total cost.
What people charge at gunshows I have no idea.....never even bothered looking at C&R eligible guns at shows.
Check out the above places websites and you can get a feel for what you can order and the costs involved.
Heres a recent shooter grade Yugo I picked up for $90. Its a late 1970s model with working tritium night sights. Its all numbers matching with a flawless bore.....I have no idea how it got in the shooter grade pile, maybe it was the mismatched upper handguard.

Actually most of them wont even talk to you if you dont have a FFL on file with them. Your going to have to get the gunstore to call them for you.
or
Pay your $35 and get your C&R License....which is an 03FFL. Then you can skip the middle man. The guns come directly to you.....now transfer fee.....no form 4473.....nothing to do but add it to your logbook.

SO how do you go about getting this C&R? Doesnt that stand for collectables and relics ? I briefly read about that but not much and i thought it ment that you were restricted to what you did with those guns. Can you tell me a little about it . Also , would you still have to go thru your own state to do a background check everytime you get a new gun? I am here in Tn .

Your somewhat restricted. You CANT use the license to conduct business, ie order 20 of everything and sell 18 of them to your buddies. You can sell the guns, but you must use your head.
Every state is different, I dont know about TN. In Iowa, NO...I do not do a background check. I can order rifles and pistols and they come straight to my door.....no background check, no FFL......nothing, gun comes to me....thats it.
