View Full Version : Type of Kahr for the wife...

So my wife thinks the G26 is too "chunky" and doesn't like the grip.
I've heard mixed reviews about these guns but am anxious to hear what you guys tink would be the best model for her. I was thinking something in the 9mm platform (as she is not a range junky like I am) as the majority of pistols I own are 9mm.
I like how they are "slim" but how reliable are they and are they as easy to maintain like a GLOCK. I clean mine after every range trip anyway, and this would be her primary CCW piece.
Any sugguestions guys?
Thanks in advance!
It sounds like she might be interested in a P9 or a CW9.
If you can find one, a T9 would probably fit the bill. It's Kahr's largest 9mm, but it's still small by most manufacturer's standards. It's about the size of a Sig 239 only thinner, and not as chunky. I recommend the larger T9 only because it would probably be easier for her to shoot and control. I had one and it was very comfortable to shoot, very little recoil, easy to control, and pointed very well. I have a K9, MK9, and PM9 so I do have something to compare it to. It was definitely the easiest, most comfortable to shoot of all the Kahr's that I've shot and owned. The size would make it a little more difficult to conceal, and it is a little heavier. It would easily conceal in a purse though. The one I had was 100% reliable right out of the box. Never had a malfunction that I can recall. If your wife doesn't shoot a lot, she may find the smaller MK9, and especially the even lighter PM9 difficult to control. Micro guns usually don't tolerate limp wristing very well either, and that can lead to malfunctions. I have nothing against the smaller Kahr's, in fact, I like them. I'm just looking at it from the angle of your wife's ability to control it, and shoot it accurately. If on the other hand, your wife is an avid shooter that's handy with a gun, she can probably handle any thing Kahr has!
Good luck,

If she likes the size of the G26, but hates the grip angle and thinks it's kinda chunky...she would like the P9 or CW9 Kahrs. The P9 and CW9 are smaller in every dimension except grip length. The Kahr is little longer but still very easy to conceal. The longer grip also allows all of your fingers on the grip without having the pinky hang under the magazine.
To me, the Kahr is just as simple to field strip for cleaning. The detail strip of the slide is a little harder than the Glock, but not bad.
I think most Kahr owners will tell you that the P9 and CW9 are the most reliable polymer pistols Kahr makes. Mine is still new, with only 350 rounds through it. I have had zero problems, and intend to put at least 100 rounds through it tomorrow if the weather is ok.
I carried my G26 for 4 years and liked it. This Kahr P9 is so much easier to conceal and feels much better on my belt. I'm using a cheap nylon pancake holster for a Colt Defender until my new Don Hume rig is delivered. It can only get better with a real holster.
Sorry about the shadows, Im bad with a camera!

My $0.02....
Love my P9. Have just "fallen in love" again. Hadn't shot it in a while, and have had it to the range lately and forgot how well I shoot it.
Small, concealable, easy to shoot. What more needs to be said?
I did have an early problem with recoil spring (with less than 1000 rounds), but that was replaced by the factory, and no problem since. Oh, did I mention, that this is my "daily" carry?
Hope she finds something that fits her needs.

T9...that is what my wife has
My wife also has a T9. She has small hands so single stack 9mm was the way to go. The T9 really works for her.

Isn't the T9 a full size steel gun? Don't know why anyone would choose Kahrs biggest, all steel Kahr for a CCW.
I would recommend the CW9 or P9.

She can carry it in a purse, less recoil..better to "hit" what you are shooting at than to sacrifice accuracy for lightness. Not everyone wants a firearm thats weight is measured only in ounces. ( I must confess I carry a PM9, black/nite sights during the summer and a SW 1911 SC in cooler weather)

Or a TP9 would work well if she wants a 4 inch long barrel for better sight length and a lighter gun. Steel may be easier for her to control. I prefer the poly guns myself.

If I was going to buy a CCW weapon for my wife or girlfriend, my first selection would be a P9 covert or a 6 shot .38
If it's for the purse, I think an XD9 Sub would be great considering the safety features and high capacity

I would recommend the CW9 or P9.
Most experienced shooters make the mistake of getting the smallest polymer model for their S.O.; who infrequently visits the range. They tend to forget the formula:
Smaller + Lighter = Increased felt recoil
This formula almost always equates to a 'Wanted to Sell, my wife's Kahr pistol".
I would suggest the K9 as a minimum. Also while being slightly bigger, a Sig P239.
