those of you that own the S&W's, how would you rate their characteristics when shooting full power 10mm? Are they prone to battering like some people say about non glock 10's? They look really sweet, and I wouldnt mind buying one

They are heavy and soak up the recoil.
Change the springs each year.
Good to go.

Well, here are my Smiths, a 1066 and a 1006. I have another one that is mid project at this point at the gunsmith, a Ruger GP100 3 incher, so I will have to take a new picture once I get it back.

Well when i got mine put a fresh set of spprings in gun and Mags.
Shoots as good as any 10mm i have,recoil even with HOT DT ammo,is well
not an issue,at all.It is just a tank of a gun built by far heavier than even my G20.
Smack it hard it just says 'Thank you sir may i have another'.

How is your Witness Compact? I thought of picking one up, but heard they can be finiky.

That is a lot of S&W variations. Im not too sharp on my S&W 10mm's, maybe someone can enlighten me. Are there any major/notable differences between them? How many different ones are there? Do they still manufacture these? Thanks!

ps: How is the trigger feel on one of those Witnesses?

There are 6 different configurations of the S&W's:

1006 - 5" standard SA/DA trigger with slide mounted decocker/safety.
1026 - 5" standard SA/DA trigger with frame mounted Sig-style decocker.
1046 - 5" DAO trigger with no decocker/safety.
1066 - 4.25" standard SA/DA trigger with slide mounted decocker/safety.
1076 - 4.25" standard SA/DA trigger with frame mounted Sig-style decocker.
1086 - 4.25" DAO trigger with no decocker/safety.


Unfortunately, they are no longer produced.


The trigger on my Elite Match (the two tone Witness) has one of the sweetest triggers! Probably one of the best 10mm's for the money out of the ones I have.

Of the three the Smith is the easiest to shot no matter you load it up with.
The Witness feels GREAT.Well im a Glock guy,with the longer barrel,6",Mikes hot loads really cook...lol..I always get a look or two from the lanes on either side.

Next I'm hoping to get a S&W 610 (6.5" barrel, nonfluted cylinder) and/or a Ruger Vaquero. Ultimately an STI Eagle 6.0" if I can get it in 10mm.

Mine was perfect out of the box, but many do require some TLC to make 100%. Most are fixed by the "fluff and buff" which can be detailed on any site about them. They are really a great "bang for the buck" especially in 10mm...
