View Full Version : I've gone and done it now...
Well i'm now the outcase of the group. I bought a new 1911-A1 Springfield Black stainless target full size. And the real problem is I really like the gun. Yea its heavy but man does it shoot well. Granted i've already had some problems with ammo selection but most of the good stuff works fine just doesn't like cheapo ammo. I'm still obsessed with glocks but I wouldn't mind having another 1911 either :-) Any of you guys have 1911's? Like em?

The topic below general GLOCKing is NON GLOCK. Try there.

Yea that would have been smart huh. Sorry about that. Just wanted to get glock opinions mostly.

Thats how I felt. I have two glocks already and just needed something different from your stand glock rip off semi's. It seems you have your die hard Glock folk and your die hard 1911 peeple. Both claim their guns are better yada yada. I just want one of everything lol.

I own two 1911's. Only thing is when I carry them I am an outcast and prefer condition II. (thats when the hammer is on quater cock). For some reason other folks think that is the most dangerous condition however I believe it is the safest.
My dad taught me it when I was real young. You place your pinky inbetween the slide and hammer and pull the trigger, then release the triiger and lower the hammer slowly till it reaches quater cock. Naturally the weapon is pointed in a safe direction.

that is dangerous, youll NEVER catch me doing that. condition one is how it was meant to be carried and how i carry it. one good bump on a half cocked hammer and it'll drop, ive seen it happen.
I have two Kimbers and love the hell out of em.
-and Im not one to give sermons but when i see/hear of something dangerous i see it as my duty.

Not trying to preach, but +1
It is never good to use an item inappropriately, especially a gun. I only carry my guns the way JMB, Gaston Glock, CZ, SIG Sauer, etc. intended. If I don't like it, then I don't carry it.
Honestly I feel much safer carrying my glocks surprisingly. I thought I would feel safer with a 1911 with the safeties and all but something about that hammer bothers me :-).

Hopefully this doesn't come off like 1911 snobbery, but I don't think a handgun collection is complete without one. And then it is so hard to own just one.

Nope because it is true. How can a gun collection be complete without one? It just can't happen.

I just got my first one a few weeks ago. It's fun to shoot and accurate. My Glocks, Sigs, Rugers, S&Ws, Taurus', etc are now going to get lonely staying in that safe. This is what I got:

Amazing how the Cpt., in his infinite wisdom, chooses to completely disregard BIG WARNINGS in every 1911 manual I've seen about the half-cock notch. That notch is there to minimize the risk of discharge in the event of sear failure. It is NOT a safety. Carrying at half-cock may result in you losing your own half-cock.
Besides, just what does that half-cock give you? You're still going to have to thumb the hammer back to fire.
I can't be plain enough:
You're a fool and a hazard to others if you carry at half-cock
I have to agree here. While I am new to 1911's I read the manual several times and that is a huge nono printed in bold i might add. I would highly recommend you no longer do that for the safety of yourself and others. Last thing we need is the gun haters to have another reason to take away our rights to carry. Be safe chap.
Oh, and condition 2 is hammer down on a loaded chamber. There is no "quarter" or "half" cock condition, other than "Condition Idiot". Or maybe "Condition I Want to Shoot Myself or Some other Poor Soul".
hey i love and have my glocks and other modern DA handguns.but the 1911 platform is my altime most favorite aemi auto.gangsters, wwi soldiers ,and all that there stuff ? ME + 1911 = Dream come true.so cool.
