I just bought a new Springfield light weight Champion Operator.
I wanted to swap out the grips with one of my other 1911 pistols, but the gip screws are not the allen type that I have on my other 1911 pistols. I looked in the box and there is no wrench to fit the grip screws. Am I missing something? Where do I get a wrench to fit the grip screws?

SA is using TORX style screws now. I would think they'd be available at any auto tools type store. Putting a small, cheap one in the box with the gun would have been a very nice touch, SA.

I wonder how many people will mistake the torx head for allen and strip it?
I have the same gun. As stated they are torx which pisses me off. I now need to go buy a torx wrench just so I can replace them with allen heads. SA really should have included one with the gun.

Guess SA is really...TORXing some folks off... :animlol:
Hey, on a serious note, if anyone knows why they went to this style over hex heads (yes, I know of the hex head vs. slotted screw argument and already have a side picked in it) I'd be curious to know. At least my hex heads fit my CT holster adjustment screws, too. TORX just for looks?

If you have a wrench from a Leupold rings and/or base set, they are the perfect size. You probably have the right sized "bit" in a wrench or driver set that you already have.
Let us know how your new gun shoots. I have been contemplating the purchase of one myself. What I would really like is a Compact frame with a Commander/Champion slide.

I don't know about his, but mine shoots great. It has been flawless and very accurate. As a matter of fact I went shooting this Sat. I was at the range I work at (we are closed to the public for winter months) so I was all by myself in around 10 degree weather shooting with gloves on. I shot my SA Champion LW Operator, my SIG P228, and my Glock 17 w/ Carver and C-more. The only other handgun I was as consistantly accurate with was my G17L with C-more. The little aluminum framed 1911 amazed me. Even with the slick factory grips and no frontstrap checkering, I could keep it under control with my .45acp bowling pin handloads with winter gloves on and it shot right where I wanted. I was even taking shots at clay pigeons setup on the 55 yard backstop and coming so close they fell over. It will be my new carry gun after I do a few carry-related mods to it and get a holster.

A t15 bit at any hardware store will cost about a dollar, :tongueout:
A TORX T15 is hardly a rare fastener in 2007...
