There's an E German Mak that's been sitting in a local shop for about a month now, with a price tag of $239. The gun is in at least 96% condition, and comes with no extra mag or holster.

To me...it seems like a pretty good buy. My only reservation is that it looks like it might have a replacement/aftermarket barrel. The gun's barrel has a brushed stainless finish to it, and has a "9X18" designation stamped crisply into it. Everything else looks to be kosher. I took the slide off of the gun, and the barrel holds tightly to the frame. I am sure that it is 100% functional...but do you think that this gun has been altered?

Im not sure....but that price rocks and I would be willing to take a chance on it. Even if it is an aftermarket barrel does it really matter to you as long as it shoots, ie is it going to be a shooter or a collector.

It does sound like a after market barrel.
The price is good and if the barrel intallalation looks good I'd buy it.

Could be it's a very accurate barrel or it could be inaccurate. That's just a chance you take.

Yeah...I might just buy it. The barrel installation looks fine. With the fixed-barrel design of the Mak, I would expect the gun to be pretty accurate no matter what.

Russ as mention earlier if the bbl. looks like it was installed properly, then buy it and shoot it.Then you can save your other EG as a back-up/safe queen.tom.:)

From your description, the barrel is after-market.
However, at that price it is still a steal.
Go get it.

Ya pushed me over the edge - I went & bought the gun this morning. It's a beautiful little pistol...and it cost about as much as an average Kel-Tec. :) There must not be many Mak fans in my area - this gun sat in the shop for at least a month and a half.

I can snap pics if somebody wants to host them.

I'm glad you got it.:)

Have you tried Photobucket for hosting? Free and relatively easy.

I hope Photobucket works better than ImageShack:
