So I've done this thing to my MKIII

I get a Ruger 22/45 MKIII. Great gun, mags won't drop free. I do some investigating and the culprit is the magazine safety pressing the mag forward very firmly and binding them into the gun.

So I figure I'll pull on the mag disconnect spring and "loosen it up a little." Well, It's loose alright, it won't pull the little tab down now at all. I went too far (argh!).

I really don't mind eliminating/disabling the mag disconnect, but is there a more elegant/permanent way? The way it is now, the tab could fall down and engage the disconnect if a mag wasn't in place.

How hard is it to replace this spring (if'n I decide to)?

I got permission by a majority vote.

Bill, Iowegan, & Everyon Else on Planet Earth: I just finished Iowegan's mod and it worked great.

I started with a #10 stainless steel machine nut, drilled it out (one bit size at a time) to .217" ID, filed the sides down so the thickness was just a nip over .100, then ground the outside diameter down to about .345 with Mr. Dremel. I smoothed it all up with some fine emery cloth, installed it in lieu of the mag disconnect and spring, and it works perfectly.
