Hi All,
I took my little K9 to the range today and shot about 150 rounds of Remington UMC and Winchester 115gr FMJ rounds.
I had a malfunction today. I fired a round and the gun did not go into battery for the next round. When I looked at the gun, there was a fired casing lying across the ejection port. The spent casing fell away as soon as I touched it (it wasn't really stuck in the port it was lying sideways across the port). the next round immediately fed into the chamber.
I can't be positive, but I think the malfunction was caused when the spent round bounced off of the very low ceiling off of the firing range. The ceiling at the range is very low (for safety and noise control reasons) and I'm kinda tall. I was aiming at a target that I had placed high on the target holder and my gun was fairly close to the ceiling. I suspect that the casing richoceted off of the ceiling and landed in the ejection port.
I've noticed that my K9 often vigorously ejects empty casings almost straight up instead of to my rightt. This doesn't happen always, but fairly regularly. It seems like it happens more with the Remington UMC ammo.
Has anyone else experienced this type of ejection with their K9? Can the extractor of a K9 be tuned like a 1911 (i.e., can the extractor tension be increased or decreased as needed)?
Thanks in advance!
