question about ak variant and barrel length... please help

I am researching to buy my first ak variant and i have about 400-500 dollars. i have found a rifle called the saiga and it looks good, considering i will have money left over for a new stock and the bullet guide so it can fit it with the cheaper ak clips. my question : Does anyone know of a better buy with the same quality? Also if i go with the saiga... What is the difference between the 16 in barrel and the 20 inch barrel in the 7.62 cartridge?

if anyone could help answer these questions it would be extremely appreciated. i apologize for my lack of knowledge haha

Look at Vector arms. Very nice AK's for about $500.

With the 16 you'll loose a little velocity and gain a little mobility.

Your call as to whether it's worth the tradeoff.

Why not build your own and spend the rest on ammo? I have less than $200 in my RomyG. And will have about $250 in my yugo underfolder. Plus if you build them on an 80% receiver you get the added benefit of no serial number or FFL fees.
