I have noticed that the slide on a G20 with a 24lb recoil spring can be difficult to operate with sweaty hands.

Does anyone know of an accessory that will allow for a better grip on the slide? Not interested in skateboard tape. Seems that I remember seeing some type of "handle" on some race guns for use when mounted optics are covering the slide (might replace the slide cover plate, not sure).

Thanks

Don't know what kind of handle your looking for sir. Have never seen anything but the stuff that sticks to the slide.

Mind telling me >>> why the 24# spring ??

You could try roughing up the finish and adding skate tape...that would offer a little more purchase. You could also wear a glove.

Mine is pretty stiff with a 24# as well and I have the same problem. It is the slick finish on the new Glocks that does it. I have tried the tape approach and it works, but it does not stay on very well.

Thanks for the replies.

This (http://www.citizensafe.com/glchha.html) is what I was thinking about, but I didn't remember it sticking out so far.

Try using AGRIP.
I took AGRIP cut for the G19 and used it for the slide of my G27 that I have a 24# spring in.
Works great.
Word of caution.
I have measured quite a few spring rates in my glocks from different manufacturers and different models.
Spring Rate values are all over the place.
I don't know if it is a quality control issue in manufacturing or the guys putting the springs in the bags just grab any spring and stick it in a bag but there are some real issues here.
ISMI seems to be the most consistent so far.
Anyway, give AGRIP a try.

thanks,
david

i will try and post a picture

Hmmm.. Thanks much for posting pics. I am concerned that the tape would not stay in place very well, given the vertical cuts at the rear of the slide.

I think that it is possible to achieve a better grip with some kind of device that replaces the slide cover plate but is lower profile than the product in the link that I posted. Not available, as far as I can tell.

It's called a slide racker. Most of the time they fit in the rear sight dovetail. (http://store.novakshandgunneroutlet.com/nho-glock-grabber-slide-racker.html) But there is one that replaces the slide cover plate. (http://www.makosecurity.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=FCH&Category_Code=Glock) They're kinda huge, and would seriously get in the way on a carry gun.

Like someone mentioned above, the problem is with the slick finish on the Glock slide that is in production currently. If your hands are sweaty, wet, bloody:shocked: , etc. it is much more difficult to rack the slide. The problem is much worse if the recoil spring is 20lbs. or more.

One idea is to have a device that replaces the slide cover plate that extends backwards from the slide instead of off to the side like those linked to above. It would not need to be any wider than the slide, and would protrude less than an inch straight back (like a "T" shape that is gripped with the forefinger and middle finger). This should work with holsters without a retention snap, unlike the above type that sticks off to the side and is not at all conducive to concealed carry.

This would allow the slide to be racked in much the same way that one works the action on a Ruger 22lr pistol (Standard, Mark I, II, III) or the charging handle of an AR15. Just a thought.

The "tape" stays in place very well with the rear rack cuts in the slide.
AGRIP is not like anything that you will have worked with.
It works better with sweating, wet hands.
That is the reason I use it on my IWB carry G27.
I also use it to shoot IDPA in 90% humidity, 100+ degree weather.
With proper cleaning before putting AGRIP on, it stays on and will come off without messing up the finish of the gun.

Yes, I thought about machining a custom back plate but thought I would try this stuff first.
I am happy with it.

My 2 cents.

How are you racking the slide? Do you "crab claw it" with your thumb and finger? Do not do this if this is what you are doing? Esox357.

Go buy skateboard tap at academy , it's about $4. Cut it with sissors
and insert it in the cocking serations. It works good.:dancing:

Check out Lone Wolf Dist... I think it's called a charge handle.
It replaces the back plate of your slide.

Good luck,

Vulcanese,

my question is the same as Esox357...

when grasping the slide, do you use a 'sling shot' type of grip to grasp the slide or do you use a overhand grip to rack the slide?

sling shot = using just your thumb and index finger to pull the slide back like a sling shot

overhand = your whole hand over the top of the slide with your thumb towards the rear. the whole hand (fingers and palm) grasps the slide.

i have not had the need for more grip on the slide when using the overhand technique... even when it has been raining and my gun and hands are wet when using the overhand grasp.

I use the overhand method. It is the combination of the slick finish, the fat slide of the G20, and a 24lb recoil spring that causes the difficulty.

It's not a huge problem. Just wondering if there might be a better way.
