I want to polish outside part of the barrel on my new PM9 DLC. Can people who have done this post some pictures as well as how they did it. Also, is there any reason to not do this? Thanks.

Why not do this? the only thing i would polish is the feed
ramp. what do you hope to gain from that? also,i believe,
Kahr applies a protective coating on all their barrels, not
positive on that, but remember reading about it.notice the DULL
grey finish, thats your protective coating.

I polished mine to a high shine, then blackened the whole
thing. I'm pretty happy with the results. I used a dremel with a polishing wheel and some Flitz.

Sorry, that's the only pic I have with me and I'm offshore.

That black barrel looks awesome.
What did you use to do the blackening?

Thanks!
The stuff I used is some stainless blackener sold by Caswel.
Here's a link:
Stainless Steel Blackener 370 (http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/black.htm)
It works pretty well. Some types of stainless don't blacken
very well unless you hit them with Miuriatic acid first.
Otherwise, this stuff is sorta like cold blue except that you
have to submerge the part rather than wiping it on like cold
blue. If you try to wipe it on, it will rust the part VERY
quickly. MK9 baseplates happen to be made of a stainless that
doesn't blacken well. I haven't picked any of that acid up,
yet.
Good luck, have fun.
Sam
Thanks Sam. I've actually looked at the Caswell 370. My wife originally wanted the DLC slide PM9 (but wanted the night sights more), so I've been considering blackening the slide for her.

If you do, let me know how it works out. I have an MK9 that
I've been considering doing that to. My biggest concerns are
detail stripping EVERYTHING, and making sure that I get all
of the 370 out before rust sets in. I'd guess that rinsing
it vigorously with running water will get all the 370 out.
Also not sure if the type of stainless used in my MK9 will
require Miuratic acid.
Good luck.
Sam
Will do...if I get brave enough.

That black barrel looks really nice. I may have to go this route.
However, I still would like to see some pics of polished barrels if you have them. Thanks again.

Sorry. I don't have any closeup pictures of the barrel before
I blackened it. I do have a couple of pictures from before, but you can't really make out any details because the barrel is overexposed. It reflected too much of the flash. Even though I had the flash pointed at the ceiling. I'll try to
remember to polish my MK9 barrel and post the results in a
few days. Sorry again.
Sam
Here's a polished barrel & feed ramp. Started by hand sanding with with 1500 grit sand paper. Then finished with a felt bob tipped dremel and Flitz.

Hey Sam
What kind of holster is the black one?

That's a Fist #22 "Secret System" tuckable IWB. It's one of the most interesting designs I've seen. Here's the link:
http://www.fist-inc.com/holsters/holster/22.htm
The other holster is a Bianchi Pro 100, or something like that.

Thanks Sam...it looks a bit like a Watch Six or VMII, how comfortable is it?

I haven't tried any similar rigs, so it's hard to say. It's not uncomfortable, but it is a little bulky. I've been trying
to wear it forward of my hip, but that doesn't really work for
me. I'm gonna try wearing ON my hip next, and see if that
helps. That's where I wear my other holsters.
Before I got it, I mostly stuck with belly band style
holsters.

The most comfortable holster I have found for my P9 is the High Noon, Split Decision. It is leather, it's soft, it stays in place, it holds the gun well, it's tuckable, and it was fairly inexpensive.
Take a look:

They also have an uncanted version called the Hidden Ally.

I ordered a Down Under and a Mr. Softy, but they have not arrived, yet.

I recently polished up my K9 barrel. It came out great. I had already done the feed ramp when I first got it, but didnt do a real hardcore job with it.
Being as I had all the stuff sitting around (left over from polishing motorcycles), I went wild this time and did the whole barrel hood also. I didnt do the whole barrel to a mirror shine, b/c I didnt see the real use in that.
the pics came out crappy because its too bright. First I used 600 grit wet (barely) on the areas of the hood that still had the dull factory finish. Then 1200 grit wet, for just a sec. Then I hit it with a spiral cotton wheel using Eastwood SS compound. all the while cleaning it with Mothers polish, to get the gunk out. Did 2 passes each in the cut and color direction. Finally I hit it with a loose spiral buff with white rouge. The feed ramp, I used a small felt nubby on a dremel tool with the Eastwood SS stuff. Then cleaned it all up with mothers and it shines like chrome. just shows fingerprints real easy though!!
Sounds like a small felt bob and Flitz is the quickest and easiest way to go, like I said I have all this stuff sitting around so the job did not take long at all. It took me longer to clean the pistol completely....

That looks really nice. Once I am certain my pm9 is reliable I am going to polish the barrel up nicely.
Also I'll have to check out the high noon holsters, considering I am having a hard time deciding what IWB holser to get. I got a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster but it is too bulky in my pockets.

Take a look at the Don Hume 715-M W.C. clip-on. That's what I'm using for my PM9.

JT,
Can you post a picture of the Don Hume 715-M W.C. clip-on. I'm interested in that holster but I'd like to see how high the clip is on the firearm.
Currently, I'm using the Uncle Mike's Sidekick Size 1 which is the same basic design with a soft shell. I'm considering the Galco Stow-N-Go for my next purchase.
To me, the clip is just right. The grip is just above the belt/waistband.

Thanks a lot J.T.
I think the Stow-N-Go rides a little higher, which is probably what I would prefer and it's the same price.
Apologize for the thread jack. I'm also considering polishing the whole barrel. Will this result in any warranty issues though? I've read that Kahr will recommend polishing the feed ramp, but they might not like it if you take it all over the barrel?
