I am ready to purchase a PM9. I have looked at both new and used. I usually don't have a problem with purchasing used, but I am wondering if with the required break in period of the PM9 and the problems that I have heard about on some of the earlier manufactured guns, if it would be wiser to pay the extra $$ and start with a new gun?
Those of you that have purchased PM9's - new or used. What have been your experiences? Positive/negative? Thanks.

definitely new for the 5 year warranty. even if you shoot very casually, any problems are sure to crop up before the five year period expires.

I bought mine new for the reasons you outlined. I've had zero problems but the warranty is peace of mind and it's there in the event that I need it.

I would NEVER buy a used PM9 unless I knew the previous owner and the gun personally. There are several eras of PM9s that were just plain troublesome. The latest "good" batch seems to be serial numbers "VC2" and above but these are relatively new.

Thanks for the input. I have decided to purchase new. Now I just have to decide between standard sights or night sights.....

I am planning to purchase from Ordnance Outsellers. Has anyone used them before?

Thanks again.

I bought mine from Jerry at Ordnance Outsellers. At that time, all of his DLC PM9s had nightsights so that made the decision easier. He told me that most people wanted them that way, so that's how he orders them. Give him a call/e-mail. He's very helpful and always returned my messages promptly.

(I put another flawless 110 rounds through my PM9 tonight. 100 rounds of Remington UMC and 10 rounds of Corbon 115gr +P JHP).

I ordered night sights on my PM9 DLC, but wouldn't bother again. I hope that most of your shooting under any circumstance will find you in enough light to see your target and therefore (generally), your sites. And I think Kahr's standard sights are easier to see in normal to diminished light.

I'm looking to order a Glock 30 or 36 soon, and won't get night sites. You can always install them later and then you'll have choices of manufacturer.

Even in the dim to semi-dark conditions, my bar-dot is totally acceptable.

If it was dark enough that I'd need night sights, I'll make a nice get-away

Howdy:

More and more I find the majority of shooters showing up in classes with night sights. When do most crimes occur? Installing night sights is pro-active "insurance" rather than reactive insurance such as your car insurance that pays damage claims.

During a recent CCW night (pitch black) course two students with lasers were separated from those with night sights. We had to use flashlights to walk let alone see the robot on wheels silhouette target wearing a T-Shirt. The robot whose "back" was towards us, didn't remain stationery very long but to the dismay of the "laser" students when the robot turned around, the robot's T-shirt was RED (silhouette "back" was white cardboard)!! Both "laser" students didn't have night sights on their weapons thus you can assume the results and you would be correct.

It wasn't funny when we viewed the red T-shirts without any damage. I felt sorry for these two thus lent them my Kahr PM 9 (9093) (www.ptnightsights.com). There were many holes in the RED T-Shirt after they had a chance to shoot the lesson again!

For CCW issuance purposes, Orange County (CA) Sheriff's Department won't approve any weapon with lasers. Except for SWAT, OCSD LEO aren't allow to use lasers. School is "out" if a CCW weapon is approved without lasers and one installs them later! I wouldn't take the risk because if one is caught carrying a non-approved weapon on your permit (3 qualified weapon limit), one will lose the right to carry concealed.
