View Full Version : New 50AE
I have been wanting one of these for a while and now I have it. I have not gotten the chance to fire it yet, but I have shot them in the past. I have heard reliability can be hit or miss. I know its best to keep them as clean as possible. Its just for range fun. I'm obviously not going to carry it or use it for bear protection.

Come on........ya gotta hunt with that thing.
Make it earn its keep.
Hard to tell, but is that a stainless frame?
According to this site, so I learned, get a set of houge grips for that thing. You won't regret it.
how much did you paid for it ?

Yes, its stainless or whatever Magnum Research calls it.
I think I may get a set of hogue grips for it. Recoil is rough, especially because you can't limp wrist it. With a big bore revolver, I let it roll back in my hands making it easier to manage. This thing can really punish your arms, wrists, and shoulders.
The 50AE is a less powerful cartridge than the 454 Casull by a decent margin. Even though my Ruger Alaskan 454 is a much lighter handgun, I'm able to manage the recoil more effectively. The revolver obviously has more overall recoil, but much of the energy is expelled as the gun rolls up and back, instead of into my body like the Desert Eagle.

I believe $1365 brand new OTD. I could have had the regular model for $200 less, but I wanted the stainless finish on something like that.

Yeah, the Black Chrome looks nice. I haven't seen one in person. I have seen the gold and the Black oxide.
I believe mine is the brushed Chrome.
Here is a link to Magnum Research's site for the Desert Eagle:

They actually sell for less the gun shops. The "cheapest" is the black oxide, which is listed at $1369. I see these selling for $1100-$1150 new. As you can see, there are many versions. I don't like any of the gold pistols. Mine lists for $1659, but I got it $300 less.

Yeah, I have seen that version in person before. I heard no two are exactly alike as each has a different stripe pattern. I guess it appeals to some, but its not my cup of tea.
I saw that at my local gun store/range today. I want that just because. I would love to have that thing as a novelty piece. Even open carry from time to time. haha.
DE is on my short wish list. I don't know if I'd get that first, or an AR.
Nice gun. Here is some cheap ammo. Its says 16 boxes are available.

So far, mine has been 100%. I have heard they don't like being dirty. I keep my pistols in excellent shape, so it shouldn't be a problem for me.
They aren't lemons.
Remember that these weapons are GAS OPERATED.with the ports, rotateing bolt,etc.,etc. They are more complecated than your regular 1911 or Glock.
I have gotten mine fairly dirty "playing" in the swamps of Florida. Mostly wet and/or muddy. They still shoot.
I keep my weapons clean. When home from the hunt,if need be,I completely strip my DE down and blow out everything with a fine mist of WD-40 driven by 80PSI from my air compressor. Followed by 100PSI of dry air.
I feel that the "secret" to reliability is >> Routine PM's.>> Origional DE brand mags that have been preloaded(broken in) >> Full power loads(HOT!,nothing whimpy) >> Ammo with the proper nose design >> And a good, pre use, "fluff & buff".
My DE is over 15 years old and of the origional(MK1) design. It has a couple of thousand rds. thru it,all w/o a problem. It has taken wood chucks, cats, dogs, yotes, deer, moose, and black bear. All were put down effectively(even the wood chucks)with my DE.
It's still used 10-15 times a year on my trips into the unknown.

That's good to hear. Mine should last quite a while.
