View Full Version : used CW9
I picked up a used CW9 last week for $300. Today I finally made to the range and put 100 rnds of Winchester 115 gr FMJ through it with one FTF. The previous owner claims to have only put about 50 rounds through it, so I feel it's still breaking in.
Anything I should know about these guns?

Read the manual, lots of good info on how these guns work. Run another 150 rounds in it to break it in. Keep it well lube, have fun, and be safe!
I've read the thread on "slingshotting" the CW9 and I'm a bit confused. Why does this need to be done? If one carries the gun hot, in a combat situation the slide will stop open once the magazine is empty. The magazine would be ejected, replaced, and the slide stop lever pulled to release the slide. When I did this, I had zero problems with the gun feeding. Isn't the slide stop lever there for a reason?

I fixed it for you...
Is this a common problem? I did a TON research before I bought this gun and that's the first I've heard about that!
I've read about FTF's and FTE's during break-in; FTF's if you hang on to trigger too long; FTE's if you limp-wrist; etc...but i have truly never heard of the slide stop failing.
Not trying to sound like a jack-*****, I am new to handguns...

You should use the slide release when dropping the slide per the manual. Some people have no problem pulling the slide back to release it, but if you ride the slide, it could cause problems. The gun is picky, but it is a very good gun. This gun is perfectly safe to carry with a round in the chamber so there should be no reason IMO that you would have to be sling shotting the slide if the SHTF. Break it in, clean it well, and lube it up. Find out what type of carry ammo you want and run a box or 2 thru it to make sure it like it. Ask questions if you need to. I think you got a very good gun to break yourself into handguns with.

I hope it's not, but Mr. Murphy is always lurking somewhere nearby.
My wife and I both have PM9's, and haven't had any problems with the slide stop. I also had good results with slingshotting, making sure that I didn't ride the slide forward.
