I got my DLC coated PM9 out to the range yesterday and the experience could have been better, although I found the culprit to my gun's problems so all is well. I had 15 malfunctions in the first 240 rounds using WWB and Speer 124gr. +p GD's. The gun is more accurate than I am and I constantly shot out the bullseye at 7 yards, which is pushing the maximum distance I'd want to use a sub-compact pistol for SD.

To start, I cleaned the gun with MPro7 and lubed it with Slip2000 oil and TW25B grease on the barrel shroud and locking areas of the barrel/slide. I may have actually over oiled the gun. I think it'll do fine without the grease.

The problems I had were, 2 light striker strikes, 1 stove pipe (GD) and 12 failures of the slide to go fully into battery (almost, but not quite). I noticed the slide had a tough time getting fully into battery, as if it lagged for a split second near the end of its forward travel. The rounds with the light striker strikes fired when loaded back into the gun.

The upside is I figured out what the problem was - my extended magazine has a broken follower. It is cracked in half horizontally below the metal tab. I noticed the 6 round magazine seemed to work flawlessly after the first 10 or so rounds, but the extended one was causing the problems. I'm not sure if the light striker strikes could be attributed to the bad follower, but I'll know in the next range session. I do need to detail strip the slide to really degrease it, something I do to all my new Glocks, as I'm worried I got some oil in the striker channel, which can contribute to light striker strikes.

I didn't notice the broken follower until I got home and cleaned the gun, so a call to Kahr should solve my problems.

In addition, I polished my feed ramp, which should be mandatory for any new auto-loader, IMO.

This brings me to an idea I have regarding the peening. If it's only occurring on the DLC coated guns (assumption), it could be from the DLC, as it's VERY hard. I also believe, based on breaking-in DLC coated knives, that a DLC coated gun will take longer to break in, due to its toughness. Mine is smooth as silk now.

Overall I LOVE the gun. It's the perfect EDC size and the DLC coating makes it bomb-proof. I'm very impressed that a gun manufacturer would use my favorite knife coating on their guns. :)

My right pinky hates the gun though. I'm not sure which magazine caused it, but I have a huge blood blister that develped on the tip by the 50th round. I manned-up and endured the pain though. Oh, and the web of my hand feels like it's been through a sand blaster. You definitely need two hands on this gun. My stovepipe occurred when shooting strong hand (oxymoron I guess) with the bad magazine.

Now I just need a couple of good holsters. Is there such a thing as a thin leather holster? I like the Comp-Tac CTAC but want something a little more snug fitting for the PM 9. I'd also like a good pocket holster. Who makes one that can be carried in the front or rear pocket (looks like a wallet)? I bought this gun to disappear and I'd like suggestions of how to make this happen.

Thanks,
Chris
