Let them. They usually seem to mellow out when they realize that they can't rattle your cage and that most non-Mormons here think highly of Mormons.

I'll vote. #4

I've thought about it before and decided not to nominate the creation of an LDS forum... but since someones wants one...

I vote YES. (#6)

Does this mean that all of GT will suddenly love us?

It is a good idea - though, if approved, people with different religious beliefs might protest us Mormons having a Mormon issues forum on GT.

I have absolutely nothing against LDS (I promise you, that's not just verbal BS), but I don't see how this is a good idea, starting up individual religion forums within a community like this. Then we'll have a Catholic forum, and a Jewish forum, and what's to stop anyone from having an Islam forum?

Again, believe me when I say I don't have a motive to say it's a bad idea other than I can see this not ending well, or working well.

I understand what you're saying... but for many that are LDS it's a little more than just a religion...it's an identity. Even with converts (like myself). I know many people of other faiths that don't primarily identify themselves by faith... (like Catholics that identify themselves as Irish, for instance) but they use other associations to identify themselves. I'm not saying there aren't folks that primarily identify themselves by religion... but I think LDS have a unique strong tie to their religion as a societal identifier and hence contributes to our close community (and our desire for a forum). This is not in any way meant to insult other faiths, BTW... this is just the way I feel.
Furthermore, I think that everybody in GT is tired of the not-uncommon 10+ page Mormon threads that show up in GNG when they aren't always suited to religious issues... hence the need for an LDS forum.
And from what I see... there are alot of LDS on GT, it would be fun to have our own little corner!

I count 16 votes so far.
If none of my post makes sense it's because I'm tired and just woke up.

If the freemasons and Filippinos can have an exluisive club... why couldn't LDS people??

GT has probably quintupled (or more) it's amount of different forums since I've been a member here...

Filipinos (Band of glockers) are more of a nationality or regional thing. There are lots of regional type clubs (different states for instance.)

I have always thought the RI forum was hanging on by a thread since there have been numerous threats to shut it down. Religious discussion has proven difficlt to moderate on GT IMHO.

Well, because those aren't religions. Filipinos and Freemasons can be of any religion, or any political party, just as any firearms enthusiast. Hence why we don't have a Republican forum or Democrat forum, but rather an all encompassing Political Issues forum, and why we don't have 5 or 10 different religion forums, but an all encompassing Religious Issues.

I'm willing to to go as far as to say that just because this may receive 50 votes, that it may be met with some justified resistance by the decision-makers.

Well, it won't be necessarily about religion as much as the culture, I would think.

You don't have to partake if you don't want to. There are many forums on here I haven't ever even clicked on intentionally.

And those of you who question the need for an LDS forum, LDS get discussed a lot on various boards on GT-- the survivalist board, the Utah board, religious issues, and GNG, because the culture tends to identify with a more self-reliant strain of person. It would be helpful to have a clearinghouse of good info for those wondering why their Mormon neighbors have a dozen 55-gallon drums of wheat in their basement : )

I already voted, but I want to address something.

I don't understand why people are chiming in who are against it.
If they don't like it, that's fine.
But it's not their decision, and the "no" vote isn't exactly part of the game.

If Eric or other site staff have a problem with it, then they will shut down the idea.
It is his site, and we will all respect his wishes, whatever he decides.
So until then, if some don't like the idea of an LDS forum, that's fine. They are free to not click on it.

Just my opinion.

Really? It is amazing to think that Mormons can be offended by simple phrases like "Bow your head and say yes", or "What is wanted?"

Do the LDS members here really want another forum, when there are already so many places on the internet ripe for them to be offended?

If we are to have a forum here on GT, we must be prepared for the uneducated, and the unenlightened to rain on our parade.

That being said, those who choose to rain on the parade of others speak volumes about themselves, their lives, and how they treat others behind closed doors.

You're deliberatly trolling. You've more than doubled you post count just by trolling the LDS forum.

I don't go into the Sig forum and tell everybody how much I hate sigs. If you don't like LDS people, you don't have to have anything to do with them and you are required by the site admin to be civil.

The LDS people in general are not easily offended, to ridicule ordnances that are sacred to them is distressing and far beyond offensive.

It's kinda like someone saying vile things about your mother/sister/wife, it would more than simply "offend" you and I'm certain that in the very least you wouldn't want to listen to it. The LDS people still support your right to free expression, just not in their house...

I am not going to open any more forums concerning religion here. Sorry. Eric
