View Full Version : 45ACP and 10mm
I would like to have a G21 and a G20 but can't afford to buy both. Which would be best? Buy a 21 and a 10mm conversion barrel or buy the 20 and a 45 conversion barrel. Would there be any difference? What do I need besides the barrel and mags? Thanks.

Must have been ColoradoGlocker's first day on the internet. :)
Sorry to hi-jack your thread here TNT -
Go w/ the G21, ammo is cheaper unless you reload, if so then you might be able to make the G20 affordable to shoot.
Not to mention the fact you should be able to find .45 ammo just about anywhere in the country easily, not so w/ 10mm.
As big a following as the 10mm has, to bad it's not still what it once was (the following that is), and not enough people ever got behind it like they should have. Pretty impressive what it can do, and also what can be done with it as far as making it sweet to shoot by downloading it, or like making it into a big boomer like it can be (kind of like shooting .44 Spec out of a .44 Mag to make it real sweet to shoot too).
Again, I'd go with a G21.
JMHO, YMMV -

P.S. I'd call Bar-Sto and ask them if I were you.

They seem to be the aftermarket barrels everyone likes more than any, and you'll probably at least get an answer one way or another out them, where as Glock will probably just flat out tell you "don't do it either way" if you call them.
I would also think Bar-Sto would also have the most experience with this kind of thing too.

I just found this in the Big Dawgs section -

If you fill in the holes, you can kind of get an idea of what they must have been talking about. Looks like maybe they are using KKM barrels maybe?
Try and contact some of the other members that took part in that thread and see if they can help you out maybe? Looks like one guy is already doing what you want to do?
Again, HTH

EFK also makes 10mm coversion barrels for the G21. i haven't seen any KKM barrels in a while. I have also been eyeing them up. I would love to shoot the higher powered 10mm ammo from Double Tap. I have some Double Tap .45ACP, and it is pretty high power. I think they say 650 ft/lbs of muzzle energy. Their 10mm is 750 ft/lbs, so the .45 is pretty close. I imagine their .45 is more powerful than your average box of 10mm. You should see the flames that shoot out of the barrel and the ejection port and the big bang. TopGlock.com has the EFK barrels. You can also get them directly from EFK with the option to have it threaded. TopGlock only has the extended barrel option, without threading.

He left the board and deleted all his posts on the way out.
Any bullet will kill you. .45 is cheaper and easier to find. Why bother with the "new" loads when the old standbys are just as good?

"Why bother with the "new" loads when the old standbys are just as good?"
Well, I disagree that the old standbys are just as good as the 10mm.
I can personally verify that the 10mm will outperform the .45ACP both ballistically and in causing physiologically significant damage.
Yes, any round will do the job with proper placement.
But the fact is that the 10mm does have an edge over the .45.
It also can be said that the .40 cal in the higher pressure loads perform almost identical to the .45 ACP, so why not buy the .40 if looking for cost effectiveness.
Also, the .45 cost is very close to the 10mm cost when comparing same quality.
my 2 cents.

David If not for the .45 Super, I would agree. I have a G20, but my G21's pretty damn versatile! In stock config., I can load up with any of the better JHP's and have one of the best combat pistols ever made, or shoot easy to find WWB, etc. for range practice. But, if I drop in my LW 6 inch barrel, s/s guiderod and #22lb. recoil spring, it takes on a different "attitude" and I can do this! Just think of it as a "modernized" .45acp., brought up to more modern performance specs.

As excellent as the 10mm is, it has nothing on the Super. Love 'em both, and thanks to the Super, the .45's just as versatile as the 10mm.
