and then my prior service indoctrination at Alameda...

NTC/RTC San Diego Company(s) 321 and 330 graduated in November 1970. Enlisted Coast Guard in 1975 in San Francisco; my indoc in Alameda was to do an about face and leave a Master Chief's Office on Monday...sent home for 3 days liberty, and departed Alameda for Petaluma on Friday!

Retired in 2001 as a CWO4 F&S.

Tim Hecht

A quick question:
My son is in the Coast Guard and will be coming home in a couple of weeks on leave. He told me that he will be qualifying shortly on a shotgun. Does any know what brand and model they use? I have a gun show coming up this weekend and will pick one up for him to practice with ( I have also been wanting one for myself) so its a good excuse that I can give to my wife for a new gun purchase. What do you recommend?

It's a Remington M870 Police Magnum. It has a 14" barrel, ACOG, and a crappy speed-feed pistol grip that always breaks. Tell your son not to worry... qualifying with the shot gun is the easiest course of fire, just point and click.

Indeed the Model 870 Remington (Up to 20") are most common;
there are others in the system but that is the main shotgun for Quals.
