View Full Version : powder coat????
A shop next to where i work does powder coating on tire rims and other car parts. Would powder coat hold up well on a firearm and stand up to cleaning. Anyone ever done this?
Powdercoat would add thickness to the parts which would not be good. It would also chip. Better off with Duracoat or simular.
I've done some powder coating in flat and dull black finishes on some receivers and bolts. If done right it looks good and is quite durable, but it does add to dimensions so it can't be used on tightly fitted parts.
Duracoat and the spray and bake finishes are really easier to use and easier to apply since the equipment setup and technique is much simpler.
You can achieve some finishes anc colors with powdercoat that you can't with gun finishes. If you're using a home/hobby powder coating system you realy need to practice a lot before attempting a gun. While you can get as good as a professional finish, they take a bit of techique to get it and it doesn't come off easily if you mess it up.
