I found a really good price on an AK-47 trigger group online. The only problem is that it contains an auto-sear. I know that drop-in auto sears are legally classified as machine guns, but what about this one?
I really have no plans for jail, so I would like to know if any dealers/class 3 fans know if I can buy this trigger group. I do own a semi-auto AK-47 variant. I would probably sell or throw away the auto-sear if I were to order this trigger group. Thanks.
atf will "probably" think that's a bad idea
go to subguns.com and search the http://www.subguns.com/laws/laws.htm
link - there is some info on auto parts in ar15 that applies
don't do it man, just order a semi FCG.
There is NOTHING illegal about having the full-auto parts for an AK as well as a semi-auto copy of an AK.
You need to modify the receiver to install ALL of those parts. THAT would be illegally manufacturing a machinegun.
Without modifying the receiver, there is no way to make your rifle fire automatically using those parts.
The reason some M16 parts are not allowed to be installed in an AR15 is that you can get the rifle to slamfire with those parts. Two slamfires = machinegun.
A 'Drop-in Auto Sear' is a part specifically designed to be installed in an unmodified receiver to allow full-auto fire. It is not a regular sear.
The laws dealing with machineguns are very confusing. Probably intentionally so. But, in the USA, anything not specifically prohibited IS permitted. And there is no law or ruling that a semi-auto AK and full-auto parts makes a machinegun.
