Removing Stamped Markings

I have a G21 on the way. It's going to get a complete redo, including refinishing the slide. It was a LEO turn-in, and the PD stamped numbers on the slide, probably for inventory control. Is there any material that will fill the stamped markings that will adhere to the metal, and allow me to resurface that spot before I apply the Gun Coat? I was thinking maybe Marine Tex. It adheres to metal and can be sanded, even drilled and tapped. I've used it to do patches where it had to be applied to metal, but I'm looking for other possibilities, just in case that doesn't work..
