View Full Version : G30 AA kit not wanting to cycle well (it's REAL gritty)
Just picked up a new AA kit for my G30 and it *really* doesn't want to cycle well. Even with lots of lube on the rails, barrel, etc, the last 3/8" or so before it goes into battery is *extremely* gritty... as in, it feels like it's being pushed through sandy mud (yes, it's THAT bad). I can get it to cycle by pulling the slide all the way to the rear and letting it go, but if I let it go from slide lock, it only goes into battery about 70% of the time. My previous G19 kit worked flawlessly, so I'm used to how these kits should work...
When I tried shooting it today, it was a constant FTF on every shot...
Any ideas on what I should check? I can't tell where anything is binding up, so it's pretty tough to diagnose.
BTW, this is a newer frame w/rails, so I'm wondering if that's the issue? If so, I wonder what I need to tweak to make it work better?

You're in WV where it has been pretty cold and you put lots of lub on it - I'd try cleaning off all that lube; just the residue that you can't wipe off is plenty of lubrication, especially in a cold or dirty environment.

I've tried Microlon gun juice (dry lubricant that you can "bake" to set the film), CLP, and a couple others, and they all feel about the same. Most were tried at room temp (~72), but yesterday was tried at an outside temp in the mid 50's)... It *did* get grittier after 100 rounds or so through it (all which I had to tap the rear of the slide for to get to go into battery (or hand-cycle a round in), but my previous G19 kit didn't have any trouble even after several hundred through it.
Any other ideas?
I appreciate the thoughts on stuff to check, but I don't think over-lubrication is the issue since it was clean/warm and still really gritty...
Thanks.
After a couple hundred hand-cyclings it seems to be fine now. No more gritty-ness and I put a bunch of Remington golden bullets through it without a hiccup this evening in 25 degree temps.
