View Full Version : G34 Trigger Tips?
Greetings,
I am new to the forum and new to Glocks in general, but am now thw proud new owner of a G34. I took the pistol to the range yesterday and ran 200rds of UMC 115gr FMJ with some amazing results. I have always shot 1911s and was blown away by how accurate the G34 was "out of the box." The only minor complaint I might have is the trigger, but only because I am used to custom 1911 triggers. What if anything would you guys reccomend for the factory triggers? I know the 3.5# connector is one trick, but I have read the G34/G34 already have a lighter trigger in them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Installing pre-travel and overtravel stops helps tremendously.
I use that setup with a NY-1 and 3.5# combo.
Are you wanting to buy a better trigger, or do it yourself?
If the latter, check out the thread at LINK (http://glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=549549)
Pay attention to what Duck of Death says. The pretravel fix is the single greatest thing you can do to a G34 (fyi, you can buy a trigger housing with a built-in pretravel adjustment from Vanek below).

Thanks everyone for replying. I do have a question about the NY 1 and 3.5# connector set-up. Since my pistol already has a 3.5# connector (although they call it a 4.5# now) if I were to install a NY 1 trigger spring, that would help my trigger pull? I thought the NY trigger springs were to help the officers changing over from revolvers to Glocks with their transition? Doesn't it make the trigger pull 11lbs?? I performed a thourough cleaning today and the "0.25" trigger job which did smooth things out quite a bit. I would just like to get rid of the creep, the brack seems pretty crisp.
Thanks again for the info guys...

The sum of parts does not necessarily mean it adds to the wt of pull.
This combo will give you a crisp trigger pull of around 4.5-5lbs with little or no creep.
...all I should need to do is try out a NY 1 trigger spring? Is it worth changing the striker spring? I am considering a Vanek trigger housing with the pretravel/overtravel screws, is that also a good idea? I am looking to keep the pistol as "stock" as possible.
Thanks...

Try the NY1 first. Changing the striker spring may or can result in light primer strikes with some ammo. It is possible to get the trigger down to 3lbs or less but I would not recommend it.
...the NY 1 trigger spring first, and wait on the Vanek trigger housing, etc. I hope the NY 1 will eliminate the creep, the trigger has a fairly crisp break and the "0.25" trigger job definitely smoothed things out.
Thanks again...

Why???
I have read on the Internet that if you get the pull below 3 lbs. the gun can go off if you just look at it.

Depends. Is the gun strictly for match or will it double as a home defense/ccw? If the G-34 in question may be used on the street my main concern would be lawyer/liability issues. A trigger alterd to much may be the difference between an aquittal or man slaughter. If the gun is strictly used in target or match then go for the best trigger you can find. Chris Gosselin used to call his shop Glockworks and now simply calls it Gunworks. He can do a match trigger of no more than 3lbs on Glocks with very little take-up or over travel. In a match that might be decided between tenths of a second a Gosselin trigger might make a difference. I would not want it on the street.

And you know this to be a fact because..........????
Mark, evidently you have not been in touch with Glock/Gunworks for quite some time. They have been out of business for several years.

Duck. This is based on some factual cases I have studied. I have used my ccw once and there was a good outcome to that (for me.) Yes Joe I am sure you are right as it has been around 2000 since I have talked to Gosselin, but they did do a nice job for me on a G-17. Thanks for the info.

I'm glad things worked out well for you.
Mark, where was Glockworks located? They had the best 3.5 connector. I still have 3 of them hoarded. I would like to find the die set. It is probably rusting away in some tool and die shop.

gunrnnr, if your 34 is range or competition gun, I would do the following:
1. "25 cent trigger job". Do a search, detailed instructions for fluff and buff of firing components.
2. Wolfe reduced power striker spring. CCI is reputed to be the hardest primers and I've shot thousands of rounds and never had one fail to ignite.
3. Wolfe extra power trigger spring for a little stronger reset.
If you do a search, you will find more info on Glock triggers than you can digest in a day. Look for all posts by Joe D, he shares a lot of good info, but I'm pretty sure he isn't telling all he knows.
The above should get you below 3# easily. There are things you can do to go lower that involve fire and drills. I'm shooting a 34 with a Vanek trigger breaking at 1 1/4# from reset. You can go just about where you want to with a Glock trigger.
