What kind of hoops must you jump through to own a shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches??? Where do you go to do this? Thanks.

Get ahold of Scott Cousino in Toledo, he can order you in what you want and walk you through the paperwork.

If you purchase this short shotgun, you still have to go through the ATF check, but it only costs $5.00 as opposed to something listed as a short barrell shotgun which runs the standard $200.00.

Yeah but you end up spending the 200$ stamp in the price of the gun purchase.

I got mine for $500. I recently purchased an 11-87 police model for $650, and that was a good price.
But, if you went out and bought a 870 express model right now for $300, then paid the $200 tax stamp for the modification yourself, and did the work on your own, you would still have over the money I paid for a professional job ont the Serbu, plus, you can't get anything nearly as small for the price.
If you don't want one that short, and are only looking at taking off 4 inches at the barrel end, you have a point. But as other posters have said, for good accuracy you'll need to Vang Comp it, which isn't free, not to mention sight re install.
In the end, you have several options.

I build Remington 870 AOW's, with 11 7/8" barrels, for $450. These come equipped with vertical rear and fore grips.

For an additional $40, I can swap out the grips with a set of Speedfeed's Pistol Grip stocks.

Send me an e-mail if you're interested.

Remington sells receivers to the public??

The reason I ask is because you cant AOW a shotgun that has had a full stock on it from factory.

I'd love to find a factory stripped 870 receiver and build it myself.

If you are not an 07/02 (manufacturer of NFA weapons) it will cost you $200.00 to make an AOW on a Form 1. AOW's only transfer for $5.00 on a Form 4. If you find a factory stripped 870 receiver, send it to a 07/02 and have him register it as an AOW (he doesn't have to pay the $200.00) and then transfer it to you for $5.00.

It's good to be a Type 07 FFL / Class 2 SOT.

I get to build all the cool toys I want. Like my 10.25" barreled NEF 12ga., or the post-sample 10/22 machinegun we're in the process of building, or all the suppressors I can machine.

I have a question for ya, I want to carry my 870 12.25" barrel / 12" length of pull, in the same manner you guys carry the AR-15. I have a side saddle that's a problem, but can be worked out or removed. I would like to carry it when closing, when walking around the outside, or when walking around the pasture. What sling do I need for this, and where & how do I attache it?

Thank ya Sir
Tom Reynolds

They come from Remington like this

Then end up like this

Any FFL dealer can order the gun. Does not have to be a stripped receiver.

Perhaps you need to get a receiver end plate sling mount so you have a single point sling, is that what you are looking for??? I have something like this on my Mossberg.

UZIFORME,

The ones coming from Remington are similiar, but a wee bit different now. Instead of the Remington factory foreend and Uncle Mike's PG, they now come with TacStar type front and rear grips.

r2kba,

The receivers which can be built into AOW's run about $300, dealer cost. Add your dealers mark-up to that, and you're somewhere around $350, minimum. Then, pay $200 for the manufacturing tax stamp. Now, you're at $550. Then, take the time to cut the barrel, and engrave the gun (if you do it yourself). I don't know what your time is worth to you, so you add your own value to that. At a minimum, you've spent $550 for a gun I can provide you for $450.

But, some folks are willing to spend extra money, just so they can put their own name on a gun.

Thats a pretty good price then. I think I spent around 600$ for my SBS.
