Well I hope everyone is ready for the dumb question of the day cause here it is.
:headscratch:
How do I remove the slantbreak off a yugo ak? I tried by pressing the button that locks it in place and twisting the break counter-clockwise. The button depresses fine but the break won't budge. Am I doing something wrong? I'm thinking about using a small strap-wrench for more torque but I wanted to ask y'all first so I don't ruin anything.

Oh... that's good to know before I try to wrench it off the wrong direction. I'll try it clockwise tonight and let you know how it goes. Thanks usmc.

Yep 14x1 left hand thread. The slant brakes on some Yugo rifles are smoked down tight. If you score it up you can always get another cheap.I'm betting yours doesn't fit all the way snug down to the front sight base anyway. Most of mine didn't.

I tried turning it clockwise last night with no success. Just to confirm; the break should be removed clockwise while facing down the bore...correct? I tried twisting it in both directions and it will not budge. If I can find a small strap wrench that may help in removal. Is there a tool (special wrench) out there for removing the break? I don't think I'll be able to remove it with my fingers alone.
As far as the fit, the break DOES fit all the way snug against the sight base. Any suggestions for this stubborn slantbreak?
I have the slant brake on a GPwasr, and the pin won't push in. The brake won't move side to side at all. I think on some Century guns they made it so you can't take them off easily.

Glock Yourself,
Have you tried heating the slant brake before attempting its removal? Someone may have used some something like Loc-Tite when it was originally installed.
Heat guns, solding irons, or hair dryers can be used as the heat source.

DNS, the pin pushes in fine...so that isn't a problem.
dglockster, I will try heating the break tonight...its worth a try. I'll post the results tomorrow. I should be able to remove the break with my hands, right?
Thanks for the help fellas:wavey:

Why are you trrying to remove the muzzle brake? Are you trying to change the imported parts count? You may do more harm than good.

wash dc,
I'm trying to remove the break for cleaning (oil, dirt and fouling). Why or how is that harmful?

Theoretically you should be able to remove the brake by hand. However, if you use enough heat to soften any Loc-Tite-type substance, the brake will be hot enough so that I recommned using either wirepliers or a wrench with the jaws padded.
Knowing now why you want to remove the brake, it may be best to just let the brake stay as is and clean around it as well as you can.
FYI: When you remove the brake (if you decide to do so), if the barrel is already threaded you will have to then use a U.S. made brake or flash suppressor to stay within the 922r compliance requirements. Same is true if the barrel is not threaded but you decide to thread the barrel.

Well, I still couldn't get it off after heating it with a hair-dryer.
dglockster,
Are you saying that if I remove the break I cannot put the same one back on? If that's the case then its a good thing I couldn't remove it. Thanks for the heads-up.
Also, if I use pliers or a wrench, is there a possibility of canting the sight block (given enough force)?

You risk damaging the barrel. It's best to leave it.Just clean it like you clean the barrel.
